CARROLL, NORMAN J. (AGE 90) OF NANJEMOY, MARYLAND
Norman James Carroll was born on May 16, 1935, in Charles County, Maryland to the late James and Mattie Carroll. On Friday, February 20, 2026, Norman departed this life at Hospice House of the Chesapeake in Waldorf, Maryland.
He received his education in Charles County Public Schools. Norman was united in marriage to Betty Louise Johnson (deceased) on September 6, 1961. Their union blessed them with three beautiful children, Norman Brett, Betheina, and Leslie.
Norman worked for Mr. Milton Cantor as a groundskeeper, housekeeper and a caretaker for over 18 years. After the passing of Mr. Cantor, his niece, Jackie Urow, gained ownership, he continued to work up into his early 80's; they kept that friendship going and stayed in touch down through the years.
Norman began his career at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service as a supervisor in the Cast Plant. He also served two years in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged. After retirement, Norman was a dedicated and faithful employee for 18 years at Walmart of LaPlata, Maryland. He was known by his coworkers as being very charismatic, with a sharp style and a beautiful smile. Gerard would drive Norman to Walmart quite often. He would go in and stay for hours and oftentimes, Gerard would go searching for him, of course, he was nowhere to be found. Moments later, here comes Norman walking across the parking lot with one little bag and a big smile on his face. Oh, but those conversations and jokes during the drive back and forth...Priceless!
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his two sons, Norman Brett and Leslie; his wife Betty; two sisters, Rosalee Carroll, and Vera Lee; and two brothers, Bernard and Glenn Carroll.
Norman leaves to cherish fond memories, his daughter, Betheina Carroll (Stanley); five sisters, Iretha (Reese) Heard, Isadore Chisley, Mable Keys (Herman), Clystie (Ann) Lee and Vivian Dent (Lynel); one brother, Adolph; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Johnson-Washington and Shirley Carroll; two grandchildren, Derond and Derwin; six great-great grandchildren, Der-Caribyah, Der-Rihanna, Dā Monei, Zaki, Lamar and Jayquan; one aunt, Ethel "Mickey" Tibbs; a devoted and caring friend, Stanley Tibbs, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
His viewing will be held from 10:00am until time of service 11:00am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 8705 Gilroy Rd Nanjemoy, MD 20662. Interment Church Cemetery.
