Obituary

On Friday, June 29, 2012, a host of angels escorted Nina Stephens to her eternal home. With everlasting gratitude for her life, her love, her wit, her generosity and the inspiration she bestowed, we set aside this day to remember Nina Stephens.

Nina was born March 3, 1921 in Onslow County, North Carolina to the late Ethel Ham. She attended public schools in Kinston, North Carolina where she graduated from Adkin High School. Nina loved learning. She took several courses at the community colleges in North Carolina and Prince Georges County, Maryland. Nina was an avid reader and was well versed in consumer education, religion and life issues.

Nina was reared in the church. She sang in choirs, taught Sunday School and ushered. After moving to Fort Washington, Maryland, she made Fort Foote Baptist Church her home. She was a devoted member until her illness in 2004.

Nina was preceded in death by both husbands and one son. She leaves to cherish her memories eight children: Annetta Soyode, Mildred Thompson, James Carney, Eugene Carney, Lynda Sutton, Stanley Carney, Lewy Stephens and Sandra McDougald; 23 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Her viewing will be held on Thursday, July 5th, 10am until Service 11am at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
