NEW, NATALIE PHYLLIS (AGE 84) OF WASHINGTON, DC
Natalie Phyllis New, affectionately known as Kim and Ma New to family and friends, was born, April 1, 1937, to the late George and Edith Chew.
Natalie peacefully transitioned to eternal life at her home, November 6, 2021, in the presence of her family. She loved her family, especially her one and only daughter, "Edye," Natalie Edith New. Her grandchildren were a great enjoyment to Natalie and she was proud that her granddaughter is attending college.
Natalie was a dedicated, long-time member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC. She loved to worship and serve in ministry. Natalie was educated in the Prince George's County school system. She received both a bachelor and master's degree in education and was employed in the Prince George's County Public School system as a Business Teacher. Natalie was passionate about her teaching position, she loved interacting with the students and retired in 1999. Natalie also worked as a tax preparer for J.D. Tax Services.
Natalie had a kind, gentle, outspoken, funny disposition and was blessed with many friends. Those closest to her were, Frances Cowan, Ms. Scott, Ms. Wilkerson, Marvel Haile, Erma Smith and Mr. Cooks.
Natalie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. New, son, Nathaniel P. New, parents, Edith Mae Chew and George Chew.
She leaves to cherish many memories, daughter, Natalie (Derrick), grandchildren, Angelo N. Drayton, Anaya K. New and Tynaya N. Celey, sister, Barbara Broady, niece and nephew, Jan and Jimmy Broady and great nephew, Brandon Broady.
Her viewing will be held from 10:00am until time of service 11:00am, Wednesday, November 17th, Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
