Obituary

MANIGAN, MOSES JEROME (AGE 86) FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Moses Jerome Manigan traveled from Queen's Court in Clinton, Maryland to Southern Maryland Hospital where our heavenly father called his son home.

Moses Jerome Manigan was born on January 20, 1934 to the late Carrie Goodman Manigan and Moses Manigan in Washington, D.C.  Moses was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He enjoyed being a grandfather to Michelle, Angela and Tamela. They called him "Granddaddy."  He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He attended school in Washington, D.C., but decided to join the United States Air Force at an early age.  He completed his education and received his GED in 1955.  During his tenure with the United States Airforce he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He met and married Delores Y. Grant on September 2, 1967.  He welcomed raising his new family.

He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. and was an active member there for many years. In his later years he attended the Redeemed Christian Worship Center with family where he enjoyed hearing his great-nephew preach.

Moses began a successful career with Parsons Corporation in Washington, D.C. as a Draftsman until he retired in the early nineties.  He also worked as a waiter at special parties for dignitaries for the National Geographic Society and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia for many years. Being the "Engine that Could" he worked at MTI Construction Co., Inc. in Washington. D.C. as a Messenger.

One of his loves was gardening. Whether tending to yard work or working with the D.C. Garden Club with his Aunt Cora. They cared for multiple plots of land in D.C. and provided fresh produce for family and friends.

He volunteered at the Woodlawn Cemetery on Benning Road in Washington, D.C. for many years where his parents are buried. As treasurer, he also raised funds for the upkeep of the grounds. He was proud to work on maintaining the grounds and becoming a spokesperson for this historical site.

Moses was the Patriarch of his family and loved by all. For many years he served as the President of the DC/MD Chapter of the Goodman, Goodwin, Camak and Manigan Family Reunion.

Moses leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 53 years, Delores, three Children, Sheila Miller (Bernard), Stephanie Davis and Steven Grant, three Grand Children Michelle Gailliard (Jeffrey), Angela and Tamela Davis, two sisters Dorothy C. Watkins and Ogarita J. Henderson, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
