Moses Henry Baker, 74, of Indian Head, Maryland
Moses Henry Baker was called to heavenly rest on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 5, 1948 to the late Sam Baker, Jr and Henrietta Baker in Sumter County, South Carolina and graduated from Ebenezer High School class of 1966. Moses grew up in Quinn Chapel AME Church where he attended until he joined the US Army. Moses enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served in the era of the Vietnam war until 1970 when he was honorably discharged.
In 1973 Moses met and married Clara M. (Burgess) Baker. They were married for 49 years. From this union they were blessed with two sons, Letroy and Moses (Deon) Baker.
After serving in the military, Moses located to Alexandria, Virginia and became a Metro Transit Bus Operator for more than 34 years. In 2006, he retired after a successful career. While employed he served in many capacities to include Union Representative, Shop Steward, Commissioner of Local 689, Transit Sports both basketball and softball leagues for several years. He received many accolades during his years at Metro.
Moses enjoyed cooking his favorite dishes; homemade stuffing and barbeque pigfeet. He also loved playing cards, going to Rosecroft Race Track to watch the horses race. Most of all, Moses loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. This was, by far, his greatest joy. He also enjoyed listening to his favorite "Blues" station and his favorite Gospel singer, Lee Williams.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death is his son, Moses (Deon), sister, Buelah Green, and brother, Nathaniel Baker.
Left to cherish many memories are his loving wife, Clara M. (Burgess) Baker, son Letroy Baker (TaMara), daughter, Lorita Tetteh, sons, Marcus Reaves and Darryl Baker, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister, Loretta Johnson, brothers, Albertus Baker (Deloris) and John Ray Baker (Edna Mae), five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, close friends, Jesse Powell and Robin Emerson. and other relatives and friends.
His viewing will be, 10:00 am, until time of service, 11:00 am, Friday, December 2, 2022, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
