Mildred Constance Bryant (Age 89) of Upper Marlboro, MD.
Mildred Constance (Whelcher) Bryant passed away on November 15, 2016. Her family kept a constant and prayerful vigil at her bedside and take great comfort in the peaceful way she passed into God's Glory. It's exactly what Mildred would have wanted. Mildred kept faith with God at all times. She believed in an everlasting life.
Mildred was born on May 27, 1927 in Washington, DC, the fourth child of Fred and Katie Whelcher. Mildred was the glamour girl of the family with the good looks and style of a model. She was carefree, fun-loving, and independent.
Although she had no children of her own, she shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to her as Aunt Millie.
Mildred had a deep appreciation for learning. She attended Armstrong High School in Washington, DC and later the University of the District of Columbia. She was an avid reader and had a special interest in African-American history. She enjoyed music and you would regularly hear gospel songs coming from her radio.
The recipient of numerous awards for her superlative job performance at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Mildred retired in 1992 after more than 30 years of Federal Government service.
Her love of adventure and travel continued after her retirement. She loved vacationing with family, whether it was piling into a van on an excursion to see relatives in North Carolina or heading to more exotic destinations like the Caribbean or Hawaii with her niece, Debra.
There was always one constant in Mildred's life and that was her sister, Joanne. The two shared a special bond having lived together for more than 50 years. They were best friends and looked after each other. It was much the same as when they were growing up. Life goes full circle.
Even as Mildred became less interested in travel, she looked forward to visits from her nieces and their children. The feeling was mutual. Mildred had the sweetest giggle and although she was soft-spoken, you always knew what was on her mind. She brought much joy and laughter to all around her with her warm and witty sense of humor.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
