Michael “Mike” Williams lived a life marked by resilience, quiet strength, and moments of unmistakable presence. Whether through his competitive spirit, his steady work ethic, or the role he played within his family, Mike moved through life in his own way—leaving behind stories, impressions, and memories that will continue to be shared.
Born on May 11, 1962, in Washington, DC, Mike was the son of the late Enoch Williams and the late Vivian Smiley. He was the sixth of seven children and the youngest son, growing up between Washington, DC, and Hollywood, Florida—two places that helped shape his early experiences and perspective.
Mike began his education in DC Public Schools before attending Broward County Public Schools in Hollywood, Florida. His family later returned to Washington, DC, where he completed his senior year at Eastern High School.
In his youth, Mike was known for his athleticism and competitive drive. He played football and basketball and later trained as a boxer at the Number 11 Boys’ Club in DC. He carried that same determination with him throughout his life, approaching challenges with grit and endurance.
As an adult, Mike built a life centered around family. He was the father of three children—Tyvonia, Michelle, and Michael Jr., who he often joked grew taller than him. He took pride in his children and remained connected to their lives in his own way. He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Sherita Ayanbule and Lola Washington.
For many years, Mike worked as a union sheet metal worker, a skilled trade that required precision, focus, and discipline. Through his work, he contributed to building structures that will stand as a lasting reflection of his efforts.
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Mike passed away, leaving behind the legacy of a life lived on his own terms. Though he is no longer with us, his story lives on in the memories, reflections, and quiet moments shared by those who knew him.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Tyvonia Briscoe and Michelle Briscoe, and his son, Michael Williams Jr.; his stepdaughters, Sherita Ayanbule and Lola Washington; his grandchildren, Makiyah Briscoe, Carter Briscoe, Nola Williams, Mason Briscoe, Messiah Briscoe, and Demetrius Williams, expected in June 2026; and his siblings, Enoch Williams Jr. (Vicky), Cynthia Williams, Carlos Williams (Carolyn), Robert Williams, and Sharron Young (Darryl). He will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Ann Griffin; his father, Enoch Williams; his mother, Vivian Smiley; and his brother, Anthony Williams.
