Profile of Life

Michael James Norwood, Jr., a handsome bouncing baby boy and only child, was born, October 12, 1989, in Clinton, Maryland to Florencia and Michael James Norwood, Sr. "Big Mike" as he was affectionately called suddenly departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 19, 2020 in Welcome, Maryland.

Big Mike received his education in the Charles County Public Schools. He played football for the Lackey Chargers in 2005. Big Mike was employed as an Operator II for the Charles County Government. In 2018, the Charles County Commissioners honored him with a certificate of appreciation for his exceptional contributions to the Charles County Government.

At an early age, his parents enrolled him in Martial Arts. He earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do at Southern Maryland Martial Arts & Fitness. Big Mike loved shooting hoops, basketball was one his favorite past times. He also loved riding his motorcycle.

He joined Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. Francis J. Ford on April 6, 2005. Big Mike had a God given gift, playing drums. He played those drums like no other at Mt. Hope on Sundays as well as other services where Mt. Hope was invited as special guest.

In addition to his parents, sorrowfully recognizing his death, but joyfully reflecting his life are his three beautiful children, Zamari, Alaysia and Adrian Norwood; paternal grandparents, Elsie Gutrick and William Norwood, Jr.; paternal great grandmother, Brydie Harris; maternal grandparents, Mildred and Gerald Datcher; godparents, Inez Wiggs and Alfred Harris; honorary mother, Yvonne Thomas; aunts, Monica Datcher, Raynette Nicoleau (Michael) and Patricia Norwood; great aunts, Ida Warren, Delores Jackson, Rose Austin (Nathaniel), Geraldine Swann, Marie Young, Joan Bransome, Karen Harris and Bertha and Isadore Datcher; great uncles, Garland Monique (Carlyn), Curtis Jackson (Ellen), Alfred Harris, Charles
Harris, Charles Datcher (Adelaide ), Winston Datcher (Arnetta), James Ward and James Thomas (Rev. Ruby); great great uncles, Ruben Broadnax (Gladys) and John Broadnax (Catherine); bonded for life cousins, Gerveld Smallwood, Matthew Norwood, Khiera Datcher and sister for life RonNeka Riley;  special friends, Patricia, Monique, Chelsea, Courtney, Yolanda, Taynisha, MeMe, Britney, Donnie, Rel, Andrea, Deon, Donnell, David Jr., Deuan, LJ, Mike Thomas , Daron and John.

Viewing, 9:00 a.m. until time of Service, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 8705 Gilroy Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662.
