Michael Leonard Ford, more affectionately known as "Mike" suddenly departed this life on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the age of 31 in Ripley, Maryland.

He was born, March 5, 1981 in Prince George's County, Maryland, to George "Buster" Louis Ford and Shirley Ann Uzzle McCants Ford.

Michael attended public schools in Prince George's and Charles County, Maryland. In 1999, he graduated from Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. He was currently employed as a warehouse distributor operator for Safeway Stores.

Michael loved life. Anyone who knew him would agree that Mike was caring, considerate, honest and respectful, but he would always speak his mind. Mike was charming and could make you laugh with his practical jokes and quirky humor. He enjoyed painting, rap, hip-hop, basketball and football. He was a pretty good basketball player … just ask his nieces and nephews. Mike was never afraid of hard work and would be available to help a friend in need.

Mike loved his family and held us dear to his heart, and we loved him. We are very proud of Michael's achievements and for all the joy he bought into our lives. He will truly be missed.

He is survived by his son, Tay'von Amir Ford of Howell, NJ; parents, Shirley A. McCants of Austin TX and George L. Ford (Carolyn) of Temple Hills, MD; two brothers, Walter L. McCants of Charlottesville, VA and Marquis G. McCants of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Kimberly A. McCants of Indian Head, MD; grandmother, Maude Uzzle of LaPlata, MD; aunts: Frances 'Speedy' Thompson of Waldorf, MD, Patricia A. Mitchell (Willie) of Medford, OR, Mary L. Mason (Leroy) of Bryans Road, MD and Latoya Hardling of District Heights, MD; uncles: Robert Uzzle (Kym) and James Uzzle (Judy) of Smithfield, VA; nieces: Enia McCants, Zana McCants, Whitney Washington and Anashe' McCants; nephews: Jabriel Bivins and Marquis McCants, Jr.; cousins: Robert Uzzle, Jr. (Alicia), Janel Martin (Stacy), Sheree Turner (Omar), Anita Mason, William Mitchell (Mary), Lamont Ford (Lisa), Anthony 'Tony' Thompson, Harold Thompson, Kendall Thompson and Patina Steward (Melvin); confidants: Jacarvin Burket, Ellis Bryant, Daniel Scales and Darnell Young and a host of other relatives and friends.

His Viewing will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland, from 10am until time of Service, 11am. His Interment will be in Heritage Memorial Cemetery in Waldorf, Maryland.
