Melvin Lee McConico Jr., affectionately known as "Mac," was born on January 21, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to the union of Luteria McConico and Melvin McConico. Peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at his home in Temple Hills, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family, Melvin Lee McConico, Jr. transitioned to eternal life.
Mac was educated in the Detroit Public School System, attending Lincoln Elementary School, Garfield Junior High School, and later Northeastern High School, from which he graduated. Shortly after graduation, Mac proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country for eight years. During his time in the military, he enjoyed playing basketball and was honorably discharged after completing his service.
While stationed in Bermuda, Mac met and married Iva Carolae Smith. From this union were born twins, La Tonya McConico and LeTonic McConico. The family later made their home in Washington, D.C., where Mac continued his education while working for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in the federal government. After many years of dedicated service, he retired from GAO. Following retirement, he remained active in the community and worked as a tax preparer, assisting many with their financial needs. Mac was also the father of Melvin Logan and had two daughters, Nicole McConico and Noelle McConico.
Mac was known for his warm personality, great sense of humor, and deep love for music. From childhood, he developed a passion for music and dancing. He and his sister Gloria Stegall often spent time singing together and laughing while listening to music on the radio.
His love for music eventually led him to become a well-known DJ, performing alongside friends DJ Scooter and DJ Silk. Mac had an incredible memory for songs and artists and enjoyed sharing that passion with others. One of his favorite songs to end a DJ set was "Sex Machine" by James Brown.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents Luteria McConico and Melvin McConico, and his children LaTonya McConico Barton and LeTonic McConico.
La Tonya McConico Barton was married to Timothy Barton Sr., and together they had three children: Timothy Barton Jr., Carolae Barton, and Jonathan Barton. LeTonic McConico had one son, Tom Prior. Melvin Logan and his wife Linda have two children, Melisa and Melvin, and four grandchildren: Melvin, Adrian, LeBron, and Gavin.
Mac leaves to cherish his memory his children Melvin Logan, Nicole McConico, and Noelle McConico; his grandchildren Timothy Barton Jr., Carolae Barton, Jonathan Barton, Tom Prior, Melisa, and Melvin; his great-grandchildren Melvin, Adrian, LeBron, and Gavin; his sister Gloria Stegall; his niece Terlyn Nowell; his longtime companion and devoted caregiver Diane Ray; along with extended family members and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his humor, kindness, and love of music.
