Maurice Atlas King, Jr. was born December 28, 1959, at the Hahn Air Force Base, Germany (near Lautzenhausen) to Maurice Atlas King, Sr. and Florine Cecelia Hancock.  Friends called him "Mo."  The family simply called him "Jr."  He was educated in the Charles County public school system.

Maurice was employed by the U.S. Secret Service for 17 years. Following his retirement from the Secret Service he worked for Lancaster Foods delivery service for 10 years.

Maurice enjoyed music, fishing, motorcycle riding, bowling and just hanging out with family and friends. He was a real "people person." His favorite pastime of late was playing cards.  Every Sunday he would join the "gang" over his cousin Clifton's home for a good homecooked meal, while, of course, watching a football game.

Maurice will be remembered as a good person.  He would laugh with you, joke with you and listen to you.  He never criticized people. As far as he was concerned you were who you were.  I'm sure he is thankful to all the friends that stuck with him.

Maurice is survived by six siblings: Larry Tyler, Maurcia Brown, Pamela Simmons, Karen Swann, Monica King and Gail Craig; two children: Maurice King and Sabrina Gray; four grandchildren: Morgan King, Jamir McNeil, Maurice King and Amazi Gray; seven nieces and nephews: Tomeka King, Patrick Swann II, Jeffrey King, Larry Tyler, Caitlin Tyler, Regina Tyler and Renita Tyler and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens Waldorf, MD.
