His Life & Legacy

Maurice aka “Theodore” was born on November 16th, 1947, in Indian Head, MD, to the Late Mabel (Travers) Baker and the Late Grant W. Baker, Sr., On May 19th, 2026, he went home to be with the Lord.

He was educated in the Charles County School System. Graduating from the then Pomonkey High School in 1965. While at Pomonkey, he played Basketball and Football -and- was exceptional at both. He later tried out for the then Washington Redskins Team, but did not make the team.

He was employed by the then Naval Ordnance Station (now known as Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center) prior to employment with the US Postal Service, retiring in 2003.

Besides the Loves of His Life (Denise) and Son (M.T., Jr.), He loved His Harley Davidson Motorcycles; and, was a Member of the “Solar Cycles” and Easy Ryders” Motorcycle Clubs as long as they existed.

He loved Fishing . . . and Drag Racing at Budd’s Creek Racetrack. He loved Camping Out at Lake Gaston, NC and always having a “Pick-Up” Truck at His disposal. He also loved to travel and visited many places in the USA and outside of the USA via Auto, Airplane, Cruise Ship, etc.

He was baptized at the then Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marbury, Maryland by the Late Reverend Carl V. Messiah, Sr. on April 10th, 1994.

Deacon Maurice received many, many Awards, Accolades, Certificates and Citations for His dedication and achievements presented by individuals such as Reuben Collins, II Esq., County Commissioner President; Delegate Debra M. Davis, Esq., Maryland State Delegate presented him with the Maryland General Assembly Official Citation for serving as a Deacon at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for more than 30 years; and lastly the Potomac River Baptist Association thanked him for exceptional Service as the Financial Secretary, a Great Leader and Mentor, and a Member of the Trustee Department for over 21 years presented by Moderator Reverend Dr. Carolyn Gilmore. All these were presented on November 8th, 2025.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Grant Woodrow Baker, Jr., and his wife Betty, David Edward Baker, Ronald Frederick Baker, and Reuben Eugene Baker. His sisters, Dorothy Mae (Baker) Bowman, and her husband Arthur, and Catherine Ann (Baker) Sampson and her husband, Nick. His other brothers-in-law, Leroy Bowman and William Blackmon.

Deacon Maurice will be deeply and sincerely missed. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Denise Gail (Quaco) Baker, their son, Maurice Theodore Baker, Jr. (M.T.), his daughter-in-law, Patrice and his step-granddaughter, Catrice.

He leaves two Sisters, Annette (Baker) Bowman and Mary Ellen (Baker) Blackmon. Brother-in-Law: Leonard Johnson; Sisters-in Law: Catherine Baker, Jacqueline Baker, Della Butler (Pat) and Regina Clark (Reginald) and Laura Quaco. Many Nieces and Nephews and other Family Members and Friends.

Viewing, 9:00am until time of Service 11:00am, Friday, May 29, 2026 at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5560 Pleasant Grove Road, Marbury, Maryland 20658. Interment, Church Cemetery.
