Matthew Pines, Jr. was born on July 4, 1945, in Markham, VA to the late Matthew and Bessie Pines. He departed this life on August 11, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC at 4:44 p.m.

Matthew attended the public schools of Front Royal, VA. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserve. He attended the University of District of Columbia and received his bachelor's degree. On June 8, 1996, Matthew married Sharon Goodwyn at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.

Matthew retired from Virginia Linens, Franconia, VA in 2010. Upon retirement he embraced his passion for landscaping. He could be found mowing lawns, planting beautiful flowers and trees, from Maryland to the Garden state of New Jersey.

Lovingly known as "Buggy", "Matt", and "Uncle Matt". He loved spending time with family and friends. Matt had the "gift for gab" and he was the life of the party. The stories and tales he told will be in our memories forever.

Matthew was preceded in death by two siblings Archie and Faith Pines. Matthew leaves to cherish his loving wife Sharon Pines, a younger brother Bernard (Jaunita), in-laws Cecelia Pines, Cassandra Branch, Cynthia Branch, Sherri Branch, Rev. Dr. Ralph Branch, Jr. (Tammi), (COL, R), H. Tracy Williams III (Melba), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2023, until time of Service, 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
