Ruffin, Mary Ann (AGE 57) of Waldorf, Maryland
Maryann Ruffin "Mary" was born December 27, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the second oldest of six children to Sylveria Green and the late John James Mack. Mary departed this life and entered into eternal rest to be with our Heavenly Father on March 10, 2016 at the VA Medical Center, Washington D.C.
Mary received her early education from Brooklyn New York Public Schools, graduating from New Utrecht High School in 1976. Mary continued her education at Wagner College and Kaplan University graduating class of 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Graphic Illustration. She was also employed by Citi Bank in Hagerstown MD where she retired in 2008.
Mary served in the military as an Army Illustrator from 1979 to 1983. She united in Holy Matrimony to the late Wilbert Ruffin on July 21, 1981. This union blessed them with two daughters, Vanessa and Danielle.
She was a loving wife, nurturing mother and a wonderful grandmother. Mary always had an encouraging word to offer others in need. She had a loving sprit and was not afraid to share her love with others. Mary was very creative and loved spending time sewing, crafting, making jewelry, quilting and cooking.
Mary was also an active member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Waldorf M.D. and was a member of the Gospel Choir. She has always been a devout Christian receiving a certificate of Missionary appointment back on May 23, 1999.
Mary is preceded in death by her father: John James Mack, grandmother: Martha Ann Hoist, grandfather: Ainsworth Hoist, paternal grandmother: Rebecca Mack, paternal grandfather: Kaleb Mack, uncle: Ainsworth Hoist, Jr., uncle: Michael Hoist and husband: Wilbert Ruffin.
Mary leaves to cherish precious memories, her mother Sylveria Green, two daughters: Vanessa C. Ruffin and Danielle A. Ruffin, two grandchildren: Torrance Marie Tchaloui and Kyree Shakeel Bonitto; three sisters: Lorraine Dorner, Penny Guy and Jacqueline Green; two brothers: John James Mack Jr., and Leonard Green; two sister-in-law's: Nadine Haynes Mack and Cynthia Green, two brother-in-law's: Charles Dorner and Ronald Guy. Mary will truly be missed by her aunt and caregiver Madeleine Hoist, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, cousins, family and friends.
Her viewing will be held from 11am until time of service 12:00pm on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 3150 Middletown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
Interment Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Date to be determined.
