Mary "Baby
Helen" Helen Newman

Mary Helen (Johnson) Newman, 86 of Indian Head, Maryland.
On Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, Maryland, Mary Helen Newman departed this life and entered a life of eternal peace.
Mary also known to family and friends as "Baby Helen" was born January 16, 1933 in La Plata, Maryland to the late Harry Johnson and Ella Smoot.
Mary was educated in the Charles County Public School System. She wore many different hats when it came to work. She held several positions in the local community in the town's favorite "hangout spots" such as Lamont's (Ball Diamond), Ford's Wonder Bar, American Legion (Green Acres) and at the Snack Bar on the Naval Ordinance Station Base. During her younger years, Mary enjoyed playing Softball; she played for a team called Pomonkey Brownettes.
She enjoyed many things in life; mainly entertaining her family. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, Mary would host her annual gatherings to cook her most favorite dishes. When Mary was not working, you could find her at many fire departments playing BINGO! Mary was also known to have her "dream book" filled with numbers she would play. In her past time, you could catch Mary home watching her one and only OPRAH, and she never changed that channel!
In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Newman Sr., daughter, Robin Newman, son, Renwick "Eric" Newman and her sister, Agnes Sydnor.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Walter Thomas Sr. (Nita), Hilda Thomas "Dee Dee" and Richard Newman, Jr. (Myrna); nine grandchildren, David Hancock, Marcus Thomas, LaTasha, LaKia, and Ellis Dyson, Sharita, and Walter Thomas, Jr., Lucas Newman and a special grandson, Eric Dyson; five great grandchildren, DeSean Bennett, Kiana and Deana Hancock, Ja'Sai Harley and Taylor Washington; sister, Ella Mae Jones; a special niece, Terri "Shelly" Jones and a host of nieces and nephews, other devoted family and friends.
