On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, God called Martha Lucille Mason of LaPlata, Maryland, to His heavenly home.
Martha was born on May 6, 1936, in LaPlata, Maryland to the late James Thomas Winters and Mary L. Jackson. Martha, more affectionately known as "Baby Sis" was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas Wilmer Mason Sr., son, James Mason, daughter, Wanda Mason, her sister, Betty Ann Warren and son-in-law, Reggie Reeves.
Baby Sis was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was educated in the Charles County School System. She was also a member of the Flamingo Club.
On October 8, 1955, Martha Lucille "Baby Sis" and Thomas were united in marriage. Their union of 48 years was blessed with seven (7) children.
Baby Sis' career included: Customer Care Associate at KMART; Explosive Handler at Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, Maryland and an Assistant with the Maryland Cooperative Extension Services. Subsequent to her being employed, Baby Sis became the childcare provider for many; including many of her grandchildren, as she was dedicated to her family. She also enjoyed social events. If Jay Caldwell was in town you knew about it as she would call and ask you "Are you going to the gospel program to see Jay"? Her favorite past times were listening to her records, watching & listening to The Temptations, playing cards and scratch-offs.
Baby Sis leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Vanessa M. Reeves, Wendy, Thomas, Brian and Sean Mason (Crystal); two sisters, Mary Louise Green and Dorothy Harper; grandchildren, Timothy, Derrick, Duriel, Thomas III, Gordon, R.J., Derek, Sean Jr., Latica, LaKesha, and Katrina who was also her caregiver; sixteen (16) great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Allen, Hamilton, Elroy and DeSales Mason; sisters-in-law, Elva Bowman, Iola Mason, Juanita and Barbara Jean Mason; Godchildren, Deborah Washington, Terri Green, Carlita Thompson and Eric Lee; one aunt, Hildegard Winters; one uncle, Joseph Matthew Winters; her best friend/neighbor, Dolly Lancaster and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 8:00am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00am, Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland.
