PARRIS, MARTHA ELONA "ELEANOR" (AGE 67) OF ACCOKEEK, MD

Martha Elona "Eleanor" Parris was born on April 9, 1947 in Dentsville, Maryland to the late James Alfred Jenifer and the late Catherine Cecelia Bowman. She was one of 21 children.

On November 25, 2014, Eleanor, as she was more affectionately known, took her last breath while in the Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD.

There are so many things that could be said about Eleanor such as her love for dancing, shopping and being a "fashionista;" but it also can be said that she was a hard working woman, who enjoyed spending time with her family and would unashamedly let you know that "family comes first." She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her loved ones during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Although she loved being with her family, she would also make sure she had time for herself. Eleanor was a happy woman, energetic, strong willed, loving and dependable. Her parents played a great role in influencing her. However, it was her grandchildren that gave her the most joy.

Eleanor worked as a housekeeper for the National Institute of Health and retired with more than thirty years of service. She was very independent. She was also a champion for Cancer Awareness.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michelle and Jason Parris, grandchildren, Dominic, Deijay, Drake and Dion Parris, sisters, Carrie, Shirley, Anna, Grace, Catherine and Helen, brothers, Francis, William, John, Thomas, and Paul. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she joins in glory nine of her siblings.

Her viewing will be held from 6pm until 9pm on Friday, December 5th and from 8:30am until 10am on Saturday, December 6, 2014, both in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph's Way, Pomfret, MD 20675.
