Remembering Marjorie

Marjorie Ann Lucas was born on September 30, 1938 to the late Charles T and Jeanette E Frye.  She departed this life on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD.

Marjorie received her formal education in the District of Columbia Public School System and after graduating from Spingarn Senior High School, married Lawrence C. Lucas, Sr and started a family having her first son, Lawrence Jr.  The family would eventually move to Ethiopia for Lawrence's work with the Department of Agriculture. Marjorie and her young family remained in Ethiopia for a number of years with her finding work at one of the Ethiopian schools her son attended. While there, Marjorie was actively involved in her new community and also with various extracurricular activities, i.e., the sport of Equestrian where the family not only owned horses, but Lawrence Sr. and Jr. both rode competitively.  Marjorie, while still in Ethiopia, increased her family and had her last son, Anthony.  The family remained there for another two (2) years, then found themselves returning stateside.  After a couple of years on the East Coast, Marjorie and her young family would move to the West Coast for another amazing opportunity, where they resided for several more years.  Once Marjorie and her young family returned to the East Coast, settling in the Washington-Metropolitan area, she began her professional career with the Smithsonian Institute where she would eventually retire after over 30 years of dedicated service.

Marjorie, re-married in 1991 to Middleton L Russell.  Marjorie and Mitt, as he was affectionately known, were devoted to each other -where you saw one, you would undoubtedly see the other.  The two, in their earlier years, would oftentimes spend their weekends in their Indian Acres retreat relaxing and enjoying their life together.  They truly loved family and oftentimes hosted the annual Thanksgiving Dinner at their home.  The two were truly an inseparable pair, as Mitt preceded her in death this past April 2022.

Marjorie leaves to cherish her memories, sons -Lawrence C Lucas, Jr (Eileen) and Anthony T Lucas (Lisa), her two (2) grandsons -Lawrence C Lucas, III and Mathew Lucas, two (2) sisters – Janice Scott and Sharlene Williams, one (1) sister -Doris J Dumas, preceded her in death, four (4) nieces -Sabrina, Angie, Rita, and Kelly, one (1) niece, Karen, preceded her in death, her nephew -Paul, one (1) nephew -Bobby preceded her in death and her step-daughters -Tawana, Zona, and Rozalyn, one (1) step-daughter -Rachelle preceded her in death, as well as, a host of other relatives, friends, and loving neighbors.
