Yates, Marion Louise Johnson (Age 66) of Accokeek, Maryland.
Marion Louise (Johnson) Yates was born on April 22, 1944 to Annie Louise Millard and Mark Johnson Jr. in Okolona, Mississippi.
Marion was educated in the Newark, New Jersey School System. She graduated from South Side High in 1961, and later attended Martland Medical School of Nursing. She married John Douglas Yates, known as Johnny, on September 1, 1962 who had enlisted in the United States Army. From that union they had two daughters, Sherry who was born in Fort Benning, Georgia in 1963, and Linda who was born in Bad Kissingen, Germany in 1965. After Johnny's tour in Vietnam, the family relocated to Fort Lewis, Washington and later moved on to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC in 1969 for what would be Johnny's final military assignment. In 1971, Marion began working as a Telephone Operator for C & P Telephone Company, and after two prior moves the family would finally lay down roots in Accokeek, MD in April of 1978. In 2004, after 33 years, she completed her successful career with the phone company as a Database Manager with what is now known as Verizon. Marion was enjoying her retirement until her sudden death on December 27, 2010 at the age of 66 at the Fort Washington Medical Center in Fort Washington, Maryland.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Douglas Yates, daughter, Sharoan (Sherry) Louise Yates, brother, Robert Millard Jr., aunt, Jeanette Louise Williams, step-father, Robert Millard, Sr. and mother-in-law, Marion Yates.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Yvonne Yates, two grandsons, John Douglas Yates II and Rod Andris Wheeler, two great grandsons, Jayvein and Jayvon Yates, a great granddaughter, Mariah Wheeler, mother, Annie Louise Millard, father-in-law, Percy C. Yates Sr., five siblings, sister, Renee' Marshall, brothers, Michael, Gary, David and Keith Millard, fiancé, Carl Dixon, three brothers-in-law, Percy C. Yates Jr., Fletcher Hill and Arlee Marshall Jr., sister-in-law, Marilyn Hill, three good friends, Sandra Snead, Loretta Boyd and Vashtie Moncrief, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Viewing 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Thornton Funeral Home. P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640 with services immediately following at 11 a.m. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
