JACKSON, MARGUERITE ANN (AGE 85) OF WALDORF, MARYLAND
The beautiful Marguerite Ann Jackson, at age 85, unexpectedly departed this life on Monday, May 25,
2026, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center and entered into eternal rest, while surrounded by family.
Marguerite, affectionately known as “Little Margie or Margie” was born on September 25, 1940 in Charles County, Maryland, to the late John Francis Keys, Sr. and Josephine Elizabeth Keys, the third (3rd) child of six (6) children. She was educated in the Charles County, Maryland Public School System. Marguerite was formerly married to the late Leroy Jackson and they resided in Charles County, Maryland. She was blessed with a bonus family; two daughters, Gloria and Mary “Fuzzy,” and a son Leroy, Jr. During their union, they additionally gave birth to a daughter, Brenda.
After Leroy and Marguerite’s marriage dissolved, she moved to Washington, DC, and rented a room from Mr. John Purcell and Ms. Emma Purcell, in Northeast, Washington, DC. While living with the Purcell’s, Margie met their handsome nephew, George Vinson Singletary, and they began dating. Soon after, George and Margie gave birth to a son, George Anthony Singletary, who we all know as “Tony.”
Marguerite’s children were her greatest pride, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing and supporting them through every season of life.
In her work life, Marguerite was employed as an associate at a variety of dry cleaning organizations for over 20 years and at Walmart for 10 years.
Though she lived a modest life, it was one rich with purpose, dignity, and unwavering devotion to God and her family. She never sought recognition or praise, yet she touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, quiet strength, and excellent cooking. She cooked big meals for family and friends, just as her mother, Josephine Keys, had. Everyone enjoyed and absolutely loved her delicious fried chicken. Her fried chicken, ham, potato salad, cabbage, greens, and candied yams, were second to none other than her mother.
In fact, Tony’s step-siblings and cousins, a number of Tony’s friends and colleagues, and a number of Erika’s (Tony’s wife) friends and colleagues, all could not get enough of Marguerite's delicious food. When Erika and Tony first began dating, she even began thinking, “Oh Lord, I hope he doesn’t expect me to throw down in the kitchen like his mom. He’s in trouble!”
For many years, Margie served as an usher and sang in the choir in her family’s home church, Zion Baptist Church, in Welcome, Maryland. Later she became a member of New Life Church in LaPlata, Maryland, where she took delight in worshiping with Tony and Erika at the 10:30 service, and enjoyed seeing Tony play the drums and bass guitar with the worship teams. Margie found joy in life's simple blessings: reading God’s Word daily, attending church, calling and checking in on family and friends, completing word puzzles, caring for her home, and planting flowers. She was especially super talented and gifted at sewing, knitting, crocheting, and creating beautiful arts & crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Leroy Jackson; one daughter, Brenda Jackson; three sisters, Sarah Thompson, Josephine Keys, Betty Hairston, brother-in-law Richard Earl Warren, and other dear loved ones.
Marguerite leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son and daughter-in-love, George A. and Erika R. Singletary; bonus daughters, Gloria Savoy (George), Mary “Fuzzy” Harvey (James), and bonus son Leroy Jackson Jr. (Natalie); siblings, Cordelia Burns and John Francis Keys, Jr. “Bubby”(sister-in-love Theresa); brother-in-love Russell Thompson; a host of nieces/nephews; a host of great nieces/nephews, and many extended family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
While our hearts are heavy with her earthly loss, may we find comfort in the legacy she leaves behind. Her life reminds us that God’s greatness is not found in the wealth or fame of this earth, but in the daily acts of love, kindness, sacrifice, and faith that shape the lives of others.
To us, she was more than a mother. She was Tony’s first teacher, steady source of encouragement, and one of the most loving and caring people he has ever known. We will miss her gentle voice, her warm smile, and the unconditional love she constantly gave so freely.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her lessons, her values, and her love will continue to guide us. We celebrate a life well lived and a Godly woman deeply loved. Rest in God’s eternal peace and love, Margie. Your life was a blessing to all, your memory a treasure, and your love will remain in our hearts always.
