IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Lucille
Ann Harris
March 14, 1930 – June 27, 2025
Margaret Lucille Ann Harris, Age 95 of Washington, DC
Margaret Lucille Ann Harris, 95, of Washington, DC, affectionately known as "Peaches", was born on March 14, 1930, in Piscataway, Maryland to the late Grace Edna Middleton and Joseph Clagett. Margaret was one of ten children and was educated in the Prince George's County School System.
Margaret met the love of her life, Robert Lee Harris, Sr., at the old Children's Hospital in 1947. They were united in holy matrimony one year later in January of 1948 and from this union four daughters and one son were born.
She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Among those with the greatest influence over her life was Jesus and her parents.
Margaret was a strong-willed woman. She had a welcoming spirit and was also faithful, loving and forgiving. She took great pride in her family relationships and in her career. She started working as an AuPair for a private family, and then Children's Hospital, and The Hecht Company. Eventually, she would become a Medical Assistant working for Dr. Robert Crawford who was a pediatrician. She was highly thought of by Dr. Crawford who commented upon her departure "I would be pleased to have Mrs. Harris work for me again on any day and any time".
Margaret began her career in the federal government working for the Bureau of Engraving. Printing in the Postage Stamp Division. She then worked at the National Institute of Mental Health, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant.
In her spare time, Margaret was a member of the Washington Senior Wellness Center. She was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima / Saint Catherine of Siena Chapter of the Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic (Dominican Laity, Third Order) and St. Thomas More's Sodality. She served as a volunteer in the soup kitchen and clothing center with the Missionaries of Charity (Our Lady Queen of Peace) on Wheeler Road and at the Washington Retreat House.
Although she enjoyed many things such as gardening, spending time with family and friends, holidays and family reunions are what gave her the most joy, as was becoming a grandmother and seeing others happy.
Margaret peacefully transitioned on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Preceding her to glory were her parents, Grace Edna and Joseph Clagett; husband, Robert Lee Harris, Sr.; daughters, Tamara Ann Harris-Brannum "Tammy", Margaret Amelia Harris "Peggy"; son-in-law, Donald V. Brannum, Jr.; sisters, Adele Avent, Teresa Odessa Fox, Elizabeth Ann Lewis-Davis, Edna Mae Brown, and Mary Hilda Branson; brothers, Anthony Clagett, and Joseph Clagett; goddaughter, Ann Lewis-Newman.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory: son, Robert Lee Harris, Jr.; daughters, Janet Rosa Harris and Edna Theresa Harris; granddaughter, Bernadette Letitia Harris; great-grandson Kenneth Eathan Harris; sister, Veronica Conchita Graham (James); brother Charles B. Clagett, Sr. (Theresa), two goddaughters, Mary Hawkins and Ayanna Surratte, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
