Mamie Laurinda Stewart, affectionately known as "Nana", was born on January 25, 1921 to Charles Henry and Sinthy Mae Lowe. On Monday, August 29, 2016, Mamie transitioned from this life at Crescent Cities Center in Riverdale, Maryland. From Bridgette, her only child Mamie had four grandchildren: Cheraun, Tiffany, Tylisa and Teon and four great grandchildren: Deja, Dane, Dean and Jaden. Mamie's memory will be cherished by her many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Mamie was raised in Arlington, Virginia. She received her education through Arlington Public School System. During this time the ninth grade was the completion for graduation. Mamie loved school, her favorite subject was literature. After graduation, her first job was babysitting. Mamie liked to help people, so, she decided to be a nursing assistant. She enrolled at the St. Paul School in Georgetown, Washington, DC. Mamie was employed at Children's Hospital for thirty-two years.
When Mamie moved to Prince George County she started attending and became a member of Solid Rock Full Gospel Baptist Church until moving with Bridgette and her husband, Tyrone to La Plata, Maryland. She then attended New Life Church in La Plata, Maryland with her daughter and occasionally visited The Living Water Church of Prayer and Healing in Forestville, Maryland. Mamie also enjoyed the two days of the week that she attended Fenwick Landing Adult Center in Waldorf, Maryland.
Mamie was a strong and independent woman. She became ill toward the end of July and fought a good fight of faith, but her body was just tired. Mamie did not waste the ninety-five years that she lived on this earth. She touched so many lives and we will be forever grateful for the time we had with her.
Her viewing will be held from 10am until time of service 11am on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Solid Rock Full Gospel Church, 7711 Walker Mill Drive, Capitol Heights, MD 20743. Interment, Wesleyan Memorial Gardens, 9690 Shepherds Creek Place, La Plata, MD 20646.
