JOHNSON, MAMIE M. (AGE 73) OF INDIAN HEAD, MARYLAND
On Monday, August 25, 2014, after a brief conversation with her daughter, Mamie Madeline Johnson quietly entered eternal rest.
She was born on May 3, 1941 in Grayton, Maryland to the late Daniel and Mamie Lawson. Mamie (Mat) was educated by the Charles County Public School system and graduated from Pomonkey High School on June 4, 1959.
Baptized at a young age, by Rev. William Leach. Mamie sang on the choir and attended church faithfully. Her favorite hymn was "Two Wings to Fly Away" and her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Mamie was united in marriage to William E. Johnson, Jr. on May 18, 1963 by Reverend William Leach. From this union three children were born, Terrey, William and Guy.
She was employed at Officers' Club at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland; Marie's Family Restaurant and the Charles County Nursing Home in La Plata, Maryland. After 16 years of service, she retired from the nursing home in 1993.
Mamie loved bowling with her sisters, known as the "Sister Act" bowling team on Thursday mornings. She enjoyed going to Bingo with the "Girls" and spending time with her "little people". Mamie loved everyone.
She was the "Neighborhood Mom". If you were looking for your child, call over to Aunt Mat's house and you would find them. The word "No" was not a part of her vocabulary.
Mamie was proceed in death by her husband of 27 years, William (Runt) Johnson, granddaughter, Jonell (Nell) Davis, three sisters, Sarah Thomas, Lucille Gaines and Florine Savoy.
She leaves to cherish her memories children, Terrey, William (Eddie), Guy, Justin and Javontae Johnson and Jason & Jonathan Hagens, one daughter-in-law, Rita Johnson, four grandchildren, William, Ebony, Michael & Terez Johnson, two sisters, Mary Swann and Celestine Smith, three brothers, Jesse, William and Daniel Lawson, five sister-in-laws, Catherine, LouJean and Wanda Lawson, Nettie Johnson and Catherine Showell, two brother-in-laws, Mark DuPree and Samuel Savoy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other children & relatives and many friends.
Her viewing was held from 9am until time of service 11am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 11220 Holly Springs Road, Nanjemoy, MD 20662. The interment was in the Church Cemetery.
