Obituary

Sylvie, Madeline (Marbury-Carter) Mason Springs, MD

Madeline Mary Carter Marbury Sylvie, daughter of the late Keith Robert Carter and Helen Theresa Carter, was born on December 5, 1934, in Pisgah, MD.

Madeline or "Tat" as she was more affectionately known to family, peacefully stepped into eternity on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Angels Heart Assisted Living Facility in Waldorf, MD.  She was 88 years young.

Madeline's early education began at the Mason Springs Elementary School and she also attended Pomonkey Junior High.   Tat's formal education ended early as she married quite young.

She worked various jobs throughout her life including: St. Elizabeths Hospital, The Census Bureau, T&J BBQ Pit, Thornton Funeral Home, Johnson and Jenkins Funeral Home, Fords Wonder Bar, Sartiks and The Crazy Carryout.   Although she was always a dedicated employee, she also enjoyed playing bingo, going to casino's (especially Dover Downs) and enjoying some good ol' crabs!  Being the Matriarch of the family, Tat enjoyed cooking delicious meals for those she loved.  She was most known for her seafood salad and potato salad.  In addition to spending quality time with family, Tat enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Numa Sylvie and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Ann and the late Vincent Jameson. Before her health began to decline, Madeline was a devoted parishioner at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pomfret, MD.

Madeline was a God-fearing woman who always could comfort someone with the sayings "God is good" and "One day at a time."  She was the epitome of a great mother and grandmother, often saying that her children and grandchildren were her medicine.  What Madeline didn't know was that she was the real medicine for her family.  Her wisdom and guidance played an intricate role in their day to day lives and decision making.

In addition to her father and mother, Keith and Helen Carter, she was preceded in death by her late husbands, Thomas Marbury and Numa Sylvie, son, Lional Dwight "Dike "Marbury,  brothers, Benjamin  "Brother" Carter, Kenneth "Kenny" Carter, Carl" Piggy" Carter, sister, Marilyn "Meryl" Rotan and daughter-in-law, Marie "Lorraine" Marbury.

Left to cherish many fond memories are her only sister, Barbara "Barbara Ann" Jameson, son Thomas "Dwain" Marbury, daughters Deborah "Debbie" Smith (Paul, who was like a son to her), Denise "Nene" Marbury-Hargrove, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  She also leaves behind, a host of nieces, including a very special niece, Tonya (Hunis) Greenhow, nephews, in-laws, and many other relatives and friends.

Her viewing will be held Friday, August 18th, 9:00am until 10:00am, Tributes until 10:30am at Thornton's Funeral Home, PA, 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640.  Funeral Mass will commence at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pomfret, MD. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery 4970 Strauss Ave, Indian Head, MD.
