Obituary

Lucy Nora Taylor

She was our "Beloved Sister and Aunt.

She was "A Precious "Servant of Love" sent from our magnificent God above.

She peacefully transitioned from this life into eternal life on Wednesday, January 9, 2025, at the MedStar Washington   Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. after suffering from complications from a stroke. She lived 86 blessed and beautiful years of God's service.

She leaves her beloved family, James Willmor Taylor (deceased), Dora Mae Barnes (deceased), Otis C. Taylor, Sr. (deceased), Angel Lee McCloud (Mt. Airy, NC), Gray Taylor (Oscoda, MI), Eunice E. Taylor (deceased), Henry K. Taylor (deceased), and Robert Lewis Taylor (deceased). And she leaves to cherish her memories over 100 nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She was born on Mother's Day, May 8,1938 to the honorable and proud parents James Henry Taylor and Hester Clark Taylor in Mount Airy, North Carolina (NC). During her childhood years she had a passion for playing with dolls with her sister Eunice, as well as, designing doll clothing. Her Mother Hester and Aunt Nora Taylor taught her to design clothes and sew. She graduated from the J. J. Jones High School in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

After she graduated from high school, she attended and graduated from the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (A&T College) in Greensboro, NC. She paved the way to higher education accomplishments; she was the first in her family to obtain a college degree.

After graduation from A&T College, she moved to Chester, Pennsylvania (PA) and started her career in Office Administration at Princeton University. During her time in Chester, PA, she committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was very involved in service to the Lord and the church. She traveled from PA "the East Coast to the West Coast," California on trips with her church members. She had a passion for dressmaking and designing and created several wedding dressings and bridal party gowns, etc. for many weddings.

In the late 1970s, after her beloved Father James Henry Taylor transitioned, she was led by the Lord to return back home to Mount Airy, NC to live with her beloved Mother Hester Taylor. She decided at that time in her life to give her life to serve and care for her beloved Mother, Aunts, and Family. She became a certified licensed Home Health Care Aide, and cared for her Mother Hester Taylor, Aunt Nora Taylor, and Aunt Bertha Taylor until their transitions. During her return home to Mount Airy, NC, she developed a deep passion for documenting and collecting family history from various family members that shared their historical family memories and stories with her. She preserved family history and stories including newspaper articles, family stories, keepsakes, and photographs for future generations. In 2005, she made contributions to the book titled "Black America Series Around Surry County," authored by her childhood neighbor and classmate Evelyn Scales Thompson, Ph.D.; she provided historical information and photographs to the book publication. She voluntarily worked with the Strickland-Taylor Family Reunion Committee members and provided historical information, and photographs, etc. She passionately worked diligently to preserve family history and was always willing to share the Taylor Family history, stories, and photographs with her family. During 1988 - 2007 she visited her sister Eunice on many occasions during her chronic illness and cared for various family members and patients until their transitions. In 2013 she moved from Mount Airy North Carolina to Washington, DC to live with her dear Sister Dora Mae Barmes and her nephew Dennis Weekly. She faithfully cared for her Sister Dora Mae Barnes until her transition and cared for Dennis Weekly up until her transition on January 9, 2025.
