Louise Elaine Swittenberg

Louise passed peacefully on Saturday morning, January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love that defined her life. She was born in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Lizzy Joiner Johnson and Timothy Johnson. She was preceded by her two sisters and five brothers.

Louise is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Julian her lifelong love, her partner in every season, and the keeper of a story that feels heaven written. Their love story is truly one for the ages. Born just nine days apart and delivered into this world by Louise’s grandmother, who served as the community midwife, their lives were intertwined from their very first breath. While they were still “arm babies,” their mothers promised them to one another — a promise that would blossom into a lifetime of devotion. They grew up together, sharing childhood memories, dreams, and faith, and at the age of 24, they were wed.

As a devoted Army wife for 20 years during Julian’s service in the United States Army, Louise exemplified grace, resilience, and sacrifice. She created a home wherever duty called — a place filled with warmth, discipline, laughter, and unconditional love. She was the steady heart of her household, a loving mother to Jacquelyn, Julian II, and James. Her children knew her as their safe place—firm yet gentle, wise, and tender.

Her legacy deepened with each generation. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Christopher, Antoine, Jordan, Paige, Jai, and Linzey. To her great-grandchildren — Jeremiah, James, Julian, Max, Jaylen, and Jordan II, she was lovingly known as “GG,” a title she wore with pride and joy.

At an early age, following in her mother’s footsteps, she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, carrying forward a legacy of sisterhood, service, and spiritual commitment.

For 47 years, Louise was a dedicated member of Fort Foote Baptist Church. Her faith was not something she simply professed, it was something she lived. She served actively in the Kingdom Women Ministry, the Praise Dance Ministry, and the Prime Timers, offering her time, wisdom, and gentle encouragement to all who crossed her path.

Louise lived a life rooted in faith, family, and steadfast love. She leaves behind a powerful example of devotion — to God, to her husband, to her children, and to every generation that follows. Although no longer here physically, the memories of her gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering strength will forever echo in the hearts of those blessed to know her.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, March 13, 2026 from 9:30 am until time of funeral service at 10:30 am at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Rd, Fort Washington, MD 20744. Interment immediately to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
