Louis Hankins, 68, suddenly transitioned into eternal life at his home, peacefully, on March 20, 2016.
Louis was born, October 20, 1947 to the late Dorothy and Carson Hankins, Sr. Louis was educated in Charles County Public schools and spent one year at the University of Maryland, Easton Shore.
Louis served in the Marine Corp from 1967-1970 where he received various medals and commendation awards. After leaving the Marine Corp, Louis pursued a career in Communications. This led him down the path to several radio positions, to include; announcer at WOL, morning announcer at WYCB, at the same time he was the "evening drive" announcer in Baltimore at WAYE; announcer, program director and general manager at WUST and WPFW.
Louis enjoyed the weekly banter with his sister and brothers over the wins and losses of the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed and shared a love of Chess and Scrabble.
Louis was the most kindhearted and caring man known to his family and friends. He always had a kind word and smile for everyone. He never lost an argument because he refused to argue.
Louis attended 7:00 am Mass at Mount Calvary Catholic Church on Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD, Pastored by Father Everett Pearson. He resided in Seat Pleasant for 27 years.
Louis helped to raise four children with the love of his life, Linda; Myron, Mira, Dontaiz, Sr. and Christa; also, two grandchildren, Charles V and Dontaiz, Jr. He was also a special mentee to his god-daughter, April Watts.
He was preceded in eternal peace by his grandparents, Albert and Lillian Matthews, brothers, Ronald and Mark and sister, Sandra.
Louis is survived by two sisters, Lilly and Beverly (Henry), sister-in-law, Sarah (Ronald (deceased)); three brothers, Carson, Jr. (Joyce), Leon (Evelyn), Arthur (Linnette) and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, a grand-nephew, his loving and devoted life partner, Linda; special longtime friends, Martin Diggs, Austin Jenkins, Leonard Thompson, Theodore Baker and Randolph Dunnington.
The family will celebrate his life with a viewing, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Prayers, 7:30pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, Maryland.
