Obituary

Loretta Elizabeth Proctor (Age 103) of Indian Head, Maryland.

On Sunday, June 3, 2018, in La Plata, Maryland, Loretta Proctor peacefully transitioned to eternal rest.

Loretta Elizabeth Proctor, affectionately known as Retta, departed this life on Sunday, June 3, 2018.

Retta, was born on July 22, 1914 in Oxon Hill, Maryland to the late James Marshall and Elizabeth Ollie Proctor. She was educated in the Prince George's County school system.  Retta was married to the love of her life, the late Elmer Eugene Proctor "Lake". From this union they were blessed with 12 children.

Retta a took great pride in raising her 12 children with Lake in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Retta was always a hard worker. She helped Lake out in the garden to prepare greens for the Florida Avenue Market in D.C. She Retired from Prince George's County School Board after 31 years of service. In 1981, Retta and Lake relocated to Charles County, Maryland and lived out their life in their dream home.

Although Retta did not drive she was always on the go. She loved "the smell of gas". You could often find her on bus trips to casinos, The Hughesville Farmers Market, beach trips, and spending time with family and friends filled with laughter and joy. She loved to cook.
If you stopped by her house she would make sure that you are fed. Retta had an open door policy.

Anyone that knew her, knew that she would give you her last. If she had it, then you had it. She'll be most remembered sitting by her window reading The Washington Post and drinking a cold pepsi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Lake", her daughter, Joyce; her Son's, Elmer "Brother", Paul, Jesse; daughter-in-law, Emogene and her Son-in-Law's, James "Jimmy" and Melvin.

Retta leaves to cherish her fond memories, her loving children: Juanita, Lorraine, Barbara, Joan, Richard (Lil), Ray, Sharon (Ted), and Christine. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grand Children, Great-Great Grandchildren, and Great-Great-Great Grandchildren.

She is also survived by sisters, Carolyn, Mary "Sis", Gwendolyn, Genevieve, and brothers Johnny, Vic, Eugene "Buddy", Hurley, and Larry; along with a host of relatives and friends.
