IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda Maureen
Holt
July 21, 1957 – December 1, 2024
Linda Holt of La Plata, MD transitioned December 1st, 2024.
Linda Maureen Holt was born on July 21, 1957, in Manhasset, New York to Jean and Norman Hackett. She was the fifth of seven siblings. Linda was baptized and held membership at Antioch Baptist Church of Hempstead under the leadership of the late Rev. James L.L. Burrell and she reunited with several churches over the years. Linda's commitment to God was unwavering.
Linda grew up on Long Island where she was educated. In 1975, following high school, she completed computer training. The highlight of Linda's career was landing employment with the United States Postal Service. Linda worked in the Hempstead Post Office branch while residing in New York. Linda eventually relocated to Maryland in 1991 and then worked at several Maryland Post Office branches and retired from the Fort Washington branch in Maryland. Linda rendered a total of 32 years and 9 months of dedicated postal service, retiring only to care for her ailing mother.
In 1973, while living on Long Island, Linda met the love of her life, Billy Holt. This devoted couple eventually married and to this union two beautiful children were born, Shanel and Sharif. The children were treasured and raised in a loving family unit. Later in life, Linda and Billy were blessed with grandchildren. Linda absolutely adored her three granddaughters, Ciara, Triniti and Camelie. Her priority was to spend special time with each one and without a doubt, she was truly a doting grandmother. She nicknamed her oldest granddaughter, Ciara, "Munchie". They enjoyed shopping sprees in New York. Perhaps, most memorable was when they watched the "ball drop" on New Year's Eve in Times Square in New York City in 2012. Linda affectionately called Triniti, "My Darling". She loved to curl up and cuddle with Triniti as they watched some of their favorite television shows. In fact, Triniti won her High School Queen Competition because Linda campaigned so fiercely and reached out to so many people for votes. The youngest granddaughter, Camelie was known to Linda by her middle name, "Billy". Linda was her biggest fan, excitedly cheering Camelie on at each one of her tennis tournaments and track meets.
Linda enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She was passionate about sports and traveled to New York to attend New York Knicks basketball games and likewise attended New York Giants football games in Maryland. She was a devoted fan, often dressing in sports paraphernalia and enthusiastically yelling at every win. Linda loved a good game of handball, dancing, card games and an exciting rollercoaster ride. She held membership in both a walking club and a book club. She cruised to the Caribbean Islands with friends, and she was a shopper who loved both fashion and jewelry.
On a warm day, Linda particularly enjoyed her son, Sharif's barbequed and grilled food and chatting casually with her daughter, Shanel. Gatherings with family and friends were often hosted and Linda was frequently, "the life of the party".
Indeed, Linda had a winning personality and was known as a consensus builder. She had an authentic zest for life. Perhaps, Linda will best be remembered for her genuineness and for establishing everlasting ties with family and friends near and far. Alas, after battling serious illness, Linda earned her heavenly wings on December 1, 2024.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Norman Hackett and by her former husband, Billy Holt. She is survived by her devoted daughter Shanel Holt, by her faithful son, Sharif Holt and beloved granddaughters, Ciara Moore, Triniti Holt and Camelie Desir, all of Maryland. She leaves her cherished siblings, one brother, Dusty Hackett of Virginia (Sharon Kay), five sisters Norma Jean Hackett-Winfree of Virginia, twin sisters- Cheryl Hackett and Ruby Hackett of New York, Juanita Hackett of California and Davina Rapelyea- Carey of Washington, DC. Her aunts include Rebecca Custis of Virginia, Jeannette "Cookie" Barton of Virginia, Collette Miree of Maryland and an uncle, Jose Gillespie of Washington, DC. Linda also leaves a loyal cousin, Evelyn Gray of Virginia, a special niece Laryse Thompson of Virginia, godson, Justin Hackett of Virginia, one longtime friend, Andrea Phoenix of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
