Leroy Lyles (Age 87) LaPlata, Maryland
Leroy Lyles was born July 17, 1932, in LaPlata, Maryland to the late Frederick Archie Lyles and Dorothy Eleanor Winters, and was baptized in the Catholic faith. Leroy married Mary Lucille Cooper on 2/15/1958.
Leroy was educated in the Charles County Public School Systems. He started his life as a tobacco farmer worker. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to January 1954, during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge and returned to his home state, Maryland. He continued his career as a construction worker. Leroy encouraged all his children and grandchildren to stay in school and get a good education. Before becoming blind, he loved watching Western movies, basketball and football games. This disability didn't stop him. He could pick up on a person voice. He enjoyed discussing gardening and troubleshooting automobile and lawnmower repairs. Leroy loved home cooked meals by his caregiver, Marlene. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved getting pedicures and manicures then groomed at barber shops.
In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Lyles; sons, George Riley, James Lyles and John Lyles; grandchildren, Phillip Fitzgerald and Charmaine Mckeever; siblings, Frederick Lyles, Dorothy Wheeler, James Lyles, Mary Douglas, Randolph Lyles; in-laws, Mary E. Lyles, Francis Wheeler, Mary H. Lyles, Jeremiah Mason, George Cooper, James E. Cooper, Calvin I. Cooper Sr., Joseph S. Harrison, William Harrison, Cecil Brown, Melvin Brown, Alice Hamilton, Bertha Gamble, Mary Proctor, Veronica Lewis and Doris Fountaine.
He is survived by his children – Betty Riley, Patricia Lyles, Dorothy Lyles, Laverne Jackson (Stanley) and Mary Lyles-Moore (Wallace); siblings, Mamie Mason, Lawrence, Jerome, and Loretta Coombs; in-laws, Judy Harrison, Barbara Cooper,Theresa Keys (John), Charles Cooper (Adriana) and William Brown (Denise); grandchildren, Tiffany Dyson (Stevie), Katrina Raysor (Joseph), Andrea Fitzgerald, Latrice Lyles, Antoine Watson, Olivia Moore, Bernard Jackson, Angelina Jackson, Adrienna Jackson and Jayshawn Jackson; great grandchildren, Christian Raysor, Stevie West Jr., Antoine Watson Jr., and August West; caregiver, Marlene Baxter and a host of family and friends.
