IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leon Alvin
Woodson
October 30, 1957 – September 2, 2022
Leon Alvin Woodson, Age 64, of Hillcrest Heights, Maryland.
Leon Alvin Brown Woodson was born on October 30, 1957 in Washington, DC to the late Leroy Nathaniel Brown and the late Jean Blackwell. He entered eternal rest on September 2, 2022, at Veteran's Hospital, Washington, D.C. Leon accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.
Leon received his education in the DC public school system and graduated in 1975 from Ballou High School where he got his nickname "Dirty Lee." Leon loved sports and played all of them but had a special love for football. During lunch time Leon would play tackle football and return to class with all the dirt he picked up playing tackle football. Leon also loved to swim and served as a lifeguard at Congress Park swimming pool for years before the pool was demolished in 1979.
Leon was a dog lover, loved to exercise, and go for long walks at the park across the street from his home. He was also a dog breeder; he trained and raised many German shepherds. Anyone that would drive down Oxon Run Drive would often see Leon walking and running with his dogs.
Leon joined the United States Army in 1976. His job in the Army was a Tactical Wire Operations Specialist. He was responsible for the wiring and the connection of the telecommunications equipment and Tactical. In the service Leon received an overseas service ribbon, M-16 Marksman Badge, and a Hand Grenade Expert Badge. Leon received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1979 after serving three years and then went on to join the Army Reserves until 1986.
Leon worked for the DC Government, U.S Department of Public Works as a Parking Enforcement Officer, until he retired in 2015. After Leon retired, he worked independently on his Home Improvement business. Leon used to take pride in working on his yard and you could always see him lending a helping hand or working with his brother Michael doing handyman projects, moving furniture, or helping lay carpet. Leon was a "Jack of all Trades" his strong willed, hearing about what foods are best for you, exercise regiments and his version of politics will truly be missed.
Leon married his childhood friend Lynda Woodson in September 1996 and from this union Noel was born.
Leon leaves to cherish his memories his children; son, Delonte Brooks, of Washington, D.C., daughters, Crystal B. Davis of California, Shannon Brooks of New York, NY and their mother, Kelly Brooks and youngest daughter, Noel Brown Woodson of Washington, D.C. and special stepson, Matthew Dancy (Brittney).
