Lawrence Lincoln Myers, 81 of Bryans Road, Maryland.
Obituary
Lawrence Lincoln Myers, Sr. was born February 12, 1938 in Bryans Road, MD to the late Constance and Ralph Myers. He was the eighth of 14 children born to this union. Being born in a Christian family Lawrence started his early Christian walk at Metropolitan Methodist Church in Indian Head, Maryland.
He attended Charles County public schools in Indian Head, Maryland. After high school, he joined the United States Army where he received an Honorable Discharge on December 19, 1957. On January 23, 1960 he married Barbara Jean Mayfield. To this union Lawrence, Jr. (preceded him in death), Wanda and Derrick were born.
Lawrence first worked for the General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. and later went to work for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) in Hyattsville, MD and various other companies as a skilled laborer.
In his teenage years Lawrence learned to dance with his little sister Lillie Mae, brothers and sisters. Lawrence and Barbara Jean were a good match on the dance floor perfecting the popular moves during that genre (camel walk, slop, hand dancing). When they were dancing people would stop and watch. Lawrence also loved fishing and fast cars. He was a comedian and kept everyone laughing. One of his favorite sayings "Let's Break Camp" which everyone knew, when he said that, it was time to leave.
In his latter years, before his illness, Lawrence joined First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights, 4934 B Street, SE, Washington, D.C. where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. After his conversion, he was given a complete set of the King James Old and New Testament cassette tapes which he listened to daily. Whenever Lawrence was greeted with "Praise the Lord" he would say, "MY LORD AND MY GOD", (John 20:28) at which time, you could see tears streaming down his cheeks and then he would say "GOD IS GOOD" .
Peacefully, Saturday evening, September 7, 2019, Lawrence Myers transitioned to eternal life at Genesis Health Care Waldorf Center, Waldorf, Maryland.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean; daughter, Wanda and son, Derrick; grandchildren, Keon, Tamika, Dhae'Monnie, Demitrius, Dhae'Sha, and Keviar; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Thomas and Lillie Mae Browne (Paul); brothers, Leon (Pearl), Ronald (Darlene), Robert (Queen); brothers-in-law, Eugene "Genie Boy" Mayfield and Larry Mayfield (Maggie) of St. Bernadine, California; sisters-in-law, Carrie Myers, Edna Myers, Elaine Myers, Melissa Myers, Shirley Carroll, and Evelyn Watson (Rodger); uncles, Girard (Edith) and Oliver (Alice).
