Lavern, 71, peacefully passed at home in Fort Washington, MD, on April 15, 2018. Lavern was born March 11, 1947 in Washington, DC to Leroy and Martha Johnson.
She attended public school in Washington, DC and graduated with honors from McKinley Technology High School in 1966. She briefly attended Prince George's Community College. On October 19, 1968, Lavern joined Julius Mock in marriage.
For 35 years, Lavern served in public service. She began her career at the Library of Congress where she served for 10 years. She also worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for 25 years until her retirement in 1997.
In 1975, Lavern dedicated her life to Jehovah God and symbolized her dedication by water baptism. She faithfully served Jehovah for 43 years. Lavern enjoyed family, the ministry and always looked forward to the family's annual trip to the beach and the mountains.
Lavern was the seventh of nine children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Leroy Johnson Jr., Lloyd Johnson, Maxine Humbles, Lawrence Johnson, and Gary Johnson.
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her devoted husband, Julius Mock; daughter, Annette Rene Mock; step-daughter, Adrienne West; grandsons; Devin Mock, DiAllo Mock, Micah Peters and Madai Peters; great granddaughter, Saba Lavern Mock; sister, Gloria Ross; brothers, Larry Johnson and Theodore Johnson; sisters-in-Law, Alma Greer and Edyth V. Davis; beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and devoted friends.
