Obituary

Laurie Hilda Hancock, 93 of Washington, D.C.

Obituary

Laurie Hilda Hancock was born August 11, 1926 in Marbury, Maryland to the late Reginald and Mabel Hancock.

She worked for 38 years and 6 months for the Federal Government.  In 1990 she retired from the Bureau of Engraving in Washington D.C. where she examined and processed postage stamps before they were sent out to the public.

However her primary pursuit in life was in the service of our Grand Creator, Jehovah God and His Son, Jesus Christ.  In September 1972 she symbolized her dedication to Jehovah and was baptized.  Over the years she regularly engaged in the ministry, preaching and teaching about God's Kingdom which will bring paradise conditions to this earth.

After her retirement, she was able to enroll in the full time preaching work as a Regular Pioneer for 15 years.  During her last months in the Rehabilitation Center she told everyone who would listen, that "Jehovah is good"!

Laurie always made herself available to assist any, who came to her for help, whether it was advice with personal problems, financial help or just a shoulder to cry on.  In spite of her feisty personality, she was never too busy to offer her help.

Laurie was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Hancock, Marguerite Diggs, Florine King, Orlean Thompson and Eudora Dockett.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Hancock and Curtis Hancock.  She always spoke of the wonderful family reunion we are going to have (the Resurrection--John 5:28 & 29).

She is survived by a nephew who is like a son to her, Earl B. Diggs, Jr. (wife Linda); her brother, Lowell Hancock (wife Catherine); her baby sister, Yvonne Hancock; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  Laurie was a mother/grandmother figure to many of us in the family and for this we are forever grateful.
