Lauren DeMorris Russell was born on February 20, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the late Velma Beatrice Minor and Lewis Claudious Minor. She entered eternal rest on August 25, 2026. At an early age, Lauren was baptized and became a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Deanwood. The faith nurtured there remained a source of strength, guidance, and comfort throughout her life.

Lauren attended District of Columbia Public Schools until she moved to Maryland, where she attended Fairmount Heights High School. She later attended Marymount School of Nursing and earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After nursing school, she worked for the District of Columbia Government for several years in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program. She later worked at Glendale and Prince George's Community Hospital before joining Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she worked as a civilian on a medical-surgical unit. Lauren proudly served her country as a member of the Army Reserve and devoted more than twenty-five years to public service. For Lauren, service was more than a profession; it was a reflection of who she was.

Lauren had a generous heart and gave freely of herself. She offered a helping hand, a listening ear, wise guidance, and comfort in times of sorrow or confusion. Her strength was steady, her love was sincere, and her kindness touched family, friends, coworkers, and many others throughout her life.

Above all, Lauren treasured her family. She was the loving mother of LaTonya Renee Bryant, Kiana Beatrice Bryant, and her beloved son, Walter, who preceded her in death. She was a cherished grandmother of six: Paris, Jordan, Dejae, Ayshia, Christian, and Kevin Jr. Her grandchildren Paris and Dejae also preceded her in death. Her children and grandchildren were blessed by her protection, wisdom, devotion, and unconditional love. Lauren was also the beloved sister of William VanDyke Minor and Pamela Anne Minor.

Lauren was also a motherly presence, a trusted friend, and a source of encouragement. Her earthly presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with Walter, Paris, and Dejae. They will honor her by carrying forward the strength, kindness, faith, and service that defined her beautiful life.

"Her life was a gift, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain in our hearts forever."
