JOHNSON, LARUE, (AGE 79) OF CAPITAL HEIGHTS, MARYLAND

Larue Johnson was born on November 9, 1931, in Whitmire, South Carolina to the late Tim Johnson Jr. and the late Lizzie Joyner Johnson and was the fifth child of eight siblings. Larue departed life on April 12th 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland. He united with Flint Hill Baptist Church, Whitmire, South Carolina at an early age.


Larue joined the Army on March 28, 1951 and served his time in Germany. After 3 years of service, Larue received a Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Discharge. On December 22, 1956, he was united in holy matrimony to Alice Wallace. Larue has one daughter, Mary Diane Gregory and two sons, LaRue Jr. and Curtis.


Larue worked as concrete truck driver for Maloney Concrete and retired after 35 years of faithful service. He was then employed as a driver that took individuals to doctor visits. In addition to the driving he did for his work, Larue will be remembered for his love of his 1965 Pontiac, GTO.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Saunders; four brothers, Roosevelt Johnson, Jodie Johnson, Charles Johnson, and Tim Johnson.


Larue is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Wallace Johnson; one daughter, Mary Diane Gregory: two sons Larue Jr. and Curtis; one granddaughter, Nichole Gregory; three grandsons, Damon Gregory, Bryan Johnson and Marc Johnson; and five great grandchildren, Xavier Gregory, Zaida Gregory, Sylvia Gregory, Isaiah Gregory, Zora Gregory; two sisters, Mary Vance and Louise Swittenberg (Julian); three brothers in laws; three sisters in law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 19th, 11:00am until time of services 12:00noon, CHAPEL of Thornton Funeral Home, PA, 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
