Obituary

La Tonya Raechell (McConico) Barton, 51 of Waldorf, Maryland.

1970 was considered the year of a new era.  Earl Graves, Sr. published the first issue of Black Enterprise. Kenneth Gibson was elected the first African-American mayor of Newark, New Jersey.  Dr. Clifton Wharton Jr. was appointed as president of Michigan State University; the first African American to hold that position, but most importantly there was something else special that happened that year.  Melvin Lee McConico and Iva Carolae (Smith) McConico gave birth to twin babies,  LaTonya (Tonya) Raechell McConico and Le Tonic (Tony) Raymone McConico.  As youth, Tonya and Tony were inseparable.  They both attended school in Washington, DC until their mother married Willard Bane in 1997 and the family moved to Fort Washington, Maryland.

As a young girl, Tonya knew she wanted a college scholarship and basketball was going to be the means to get it.  Tonya would spend many hours at the Lord Baltimore Middle School outdoor gym, and boy did it pay off.  LaTonya held many records in high school and received numerous awards including the coveted Washington Post 1988 All-Met team selection.  Tonya received many scholarship offers, but accepted a full scholarship to play basketball for Radford University in Radford, Virginia.

Tonya was not just an athlete; she was an excellent student, awarded numerous academic scholarships, and was inducted into the National Honor Society where she met her future husband, Timothy (Tim) Barton.  Tonya would always say, "I have high standards. If anyone wants to date me, they must be in as many activities as myself, have a G.P.A. equal or higher, and most importantly, they have to believe in Jesus Christ."

Tim and Tonya started dating in 1988 and after Tonya graduated from Radford with a degree in Business Administration and English in 1992, Tim returned home from being called up for the Gulf War.  They married later that year and moved to Waldorf, Maryland.

LaTonya always wanted to be an entrepreneur.   In 1993, Tonya and Tim started a part-time business called Experience Technologies, later renamed   Kingdomware Technologies, Inc.  In 1998, the pair stepped out on faith and went into business full-time.  Tonya acquired the business and Tim would fulfill the work. Their strong personal relationship turned into a strong business relationship with the two providing innovative, high quality, value-added services, solutions, and customer support that advanced human capital.  Over the 20 plus years of Kingdomware's existence, Tonya and Tim received numerous business awards including the 2016 landmark 8-0 Supreme Court decision, Kingdomware Technologies, Inc. v. the United States that was spearheaded by Tonya.

Tonya and Tim were not only about running a successful business,  they were ready to start a family.  In 2004, Tim Jr. (TJ) was born;  In 2006, daughter Carolae Elaine (CeCe) was born;  In 2007, Jonathan Tobiah was born.  Tonya had high expectations for her three babies.  First, was the love and reverence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The second was a high achievement in education, and the third was the game of basketball.  The same standards she had in her life, she passed down to her babies which they are living up to today.

On November 3, 2021, with her husband by her side, Tonya was called home to be with the Lord.  She was preceded in death by her mother Iva Carolae Bane and her twin brother Le Tonic Raymone McConico.  She is survived by her husband Tim and their three children Tim Jr, Carolae, and Jonathan.  She is also survived by her father Melvin Lee McConico Jr; her stepfather Willard I. Bane (Carolyn); her brother Melvin Logan (Linda) and their two children; her twin sisters Nicole and Noele McConico; nephew Tom Langston McConico Prior; mother-in-law Florine E. Barton; brothers-in-law John H. Barton, Jr. and Matthew M. Barton; sisters-in-law April R. McSwain (Derek) and Andrea Brigmon (Zebadiah); four uncles, Charles Robinson, Hillard Bane, Val Heath, and Victor Cann; five aunts, Margaret Smith, Refrenita Smith, Mary Heath, Maxine Bane, and Gloria Stegall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives from Bermuda and the United States. Tonya will be missed, not only by her family, but by her close friends and business associates.
