Wilson, Kayrene Iona (Age 71) of Fort Washington, Maryland.
Kayrene Iona Jackson Wilson of Fort Washington, MD was born December 6, 1942 in Washington, DC and departed this life on January 25, 2014 at the Washington Hospital Center after a long illness.
Kayrene affectionately known as "Kay" was born to the late Raymond and Evelyn Jackson Sr. She was educated in the public schools of Charles County, graduating from Pomonkey High School class of 1960. She worked many years of service with the Naval Ordinance Station Base in Indian Head, MD. She gave her life over to God at an early age at the Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Nanjemoy, MD, and since then has been a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, MD, for over 21 years. She was a member of the Inspirational Choir at Galilee Baptist Church until her health began to fail.
Kay was known as an "Evangelist." She shared her testimony of God's goodness and healing power with those that came into her life. She used her gift to help others come to Christ knowing that He could do ALL things. She had GREAT FAITH and knew who God is but most importantly God knew her. She ministered to the residents of the Fort Washington Nursing Facility and received a Certificate of Appreciation for her dedicated services.
She was an avid NBA basketball fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. She once had the opportunity to see Kobe Bryant live and in action which was one of her most memorable moments. She also liked Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs. Earlier in life, she enjoyed being on AFGE Waldorf Bowling League, with the Naval Ordinance Station Base softball team and cheering for her local Charles County baseball team the "Pisgah Boo-Boos". Kay enjoyed listening and singing gospel music. She enjoyed spending time with family members, organizing family events, and vacationing with her immediate family. She was very organized, proud, outspoken, dressed with class, and very much loved by all family and friends.
After the death of her parents she became the guardian of her younger three siblings (Barry, Sterling, and Evelyn).
Kay loved cross search puzzles, playing cards (spades), reading the Daily Bread, watching Family Feud (Steve Harvey), eating crabs and lobster, enjoyed dining out and the movies, Gospel Concerts and collecting stuffed animals.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her sister, Esther Jackson, nieces, Evangeline "Dee Dee" Jackson and Melissa Swann-Adams.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; LaWan Bowman, Nadine Wilkins (Brian), Dana Washington (David: a devoted son-in-law and caregiver); three grandchildren; Jerel Wilson, Shaniqua and Brian Wilkins and great grandson; Keyonn Jenkins; four sisters; Carolyn Swann (Sterling Sr.), Gwendolyn Jackson, Gloria Sweetney, Evelyn Webb (Alfred); Five brothers; Ray Jackson Jr. (Shirley), Emmett B. Jackson, Barry Jackson, Sterling Jackson (Brenda), Charles Simpson Sr.; one aunt; Howardine Jackson; a loving and devoted cousin; Mildred Datcher (who was like a sister) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 9am until time of service 11am, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Galilee Baptist Church, 2101 Shadyside Avenue, Suitland, MD 20746. Interment, Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
