IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kandy Boger
Neary
February 12, 1946 – November 4, 2023
KANDY BOGER NEARY, AGE 77, OF FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND
On Saturday, November 4, 2023 in Fort Washington, Maryland, Kandy Neary peacefully transitioned to eternal rest.
Kandy Boger Neary was born February 12, 1946, to Shelden and Irma Boger Neary in Pottsville, PA. She departed this life on November 4, 2023, at the Adventist Healthcare Fort Washington Medical Center in Fort Washington, MD. Kandy had one brother, 3 years older than she, Shelden Roy Neary that preceded her in death October 2017.
Kandy was educated in the public school system in Schuylkill-Haven, PA. She graduated from High School in 1964. She would often talk about how her mom sent her to Washington, DC by bus to go and "start a new life." That is exactly what she did. She worked and attended night school to further her education. Kandy graduated from the University of District of Columbia with a BA degree. She later secured a job in the government as a budget analyst.
Kandy never married or gave birth to her own children, but she had 3 godchildren that she took pride in and loved dearly, Derick Joyner, who she referred to as "my baby," Michelle Lawing and her daughter Kaylin and Kisha Weldon. She often spoke of her own childhood and the experiences she had with her brother, "Buddy," and her cousins Sharon and Jean.
Kandy was very active when she attended the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Hope Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing, working with the Children's Choir, working as a Children's Church Leader and Bible study Leader. Kandy later studied the bible with her neighbor that was Seventh Day Adventist. After she learned more bible truths from the word of God Kandy was baptized in the Pisgah SDA Church on July 22, 2017. She loved being on the morning prayer line and the Tuesday prayer line. She especially enjoyed praying for the children and supporting Christian Education Projects and singing in the Choir for Holiday Programs.
Kandy was a fun loving and caring person and she was always willing to help someone. She also loved baking and traveling. She loved God, her church family and her extended family and friends. Wherever she was she could strike up and hold a good long conversation. Family and friends knew how she loved to talk. Kandy also enjoyed watching the Nationals Baseball Team and the Washington Football Team. That was probably the only time you couldn't get much of a conversation from her, while she was watching her sports, and Old Western movies.
Organizations that Kandy was affiliated with were Red Hat Society, National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association (NARF) and Toastmasters.
Kandy was loved by everyone she met. She would often call her cousin Sharon and make daily calls to her friends just to see how they were doing and let them know that she was "ok." She would often end her phone conversation with "I love you," and would be tickled to get the response "I love you more."
Kandy B. Neary leaves to cherish her memory her cousins, Sharon Schwartz of Pennsylvania and Jean Beattie of Delaware, godson Derick Joyner, goddaughters Michelle Lawing and Kisha Weldon. A friend like a brother Larry Gillis, A friend like a sister Veronica Gillis and Annette Winston and a host of other friends, neighbors and church family.
