Obituary

June Teresa Posey, "Schoochie" 72, of White Plains, Maryland.

On Saturday, 11 November 2023, the Lord called June Teresa Posey, one of his beloved Angels home.

June is preceded in death by her parents Rudolph A. and Eva M Posey, brother Rudolph A. Posey, Jr, and sister, Victoria Mae Posey Morgan, sister-in-law Philis (Matthews) Posey, and nieces Cherry Maria and Jerry Lee Barnes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, LaMar Marshall, and 8 siblings: Hilda Barnes (Cecil), Carroll Posey (Gale), April Posey (Glenn), Carlene Richardson, Glenn Posey, Rickie Posey (Rene), Jackie Posey and Gale Claiborne (Kevin), nieces:(Gloria Barnes, LaShawn (Kim) Barnes, Wanda Posey, Ericka Thomas, Wendy Hardin (Kendwani), and Jessica Banks. Nephews: Dean West (Kim), Derek Matthews (Angie), and Glenn Posey, Jr. (Lauren), sister-in-law Catherine Posey, one godchild, Saniyah Payne, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was educated in the Charles County School System, graduating from Lackey High School in 1969.  She retired from the US Department of Commerce in 2010 after beginning her Federal career at the US Department of Navy in Indian Head, MD.

June (known affectionately as Schoochie to her family and close friends) was one of a kind. She was born the 5th oldest of 11 children. She was loved by everyone, was always there in time of need -  never once expecting praise or credit.

She was truly an Angel sent by God and lived her life to serve and nurture, love and protect, and to be an example of what it truly means to be mother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was a Loving Mother. She had one son, Lamar Bryant Marshall.  They were close as a mother and son could be. They were also best friends.  She raised him to be respectful, appreciate family, to be caring and to help others – just like her.  They both shared a talent for creativity and could be counted on to have the best wrapped gifts and to always be prepared – no matter what the situation. They were a dynamic duo and together there wasn't anything they couldn't do!

She was a Loving Daughter, Sister and Aunt.   The last child to leave home, she had a special relationship with our parents who trusted her with their affairs and relied on her for care as they began their journey home. She provided for each of us in her own special way. She fed us all and was the one daughter who could cook most like our mother. Quite the disciplinarian to the younger siblings, nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.  She was also a no nonsense, dependable resource for the older ones, as well.

She was a Good Friend. Those who were fortunate enough to have her as a friend knew how dedicated and dependable she was.  She never meddled in anyone's business and could keep a secret like no other.

She was the Quiet Life of the Party.  Schoochie loved to plan and organize family gatherings, vacations and BBQs in the back yard.  She was always prepared – having that one thing that everyone else would forget.  She had her own version of "Walmart" in her basement and could immediately produce any random item whether it be a jar of bubbles or a can of cranberry sauce.  She always had it.  She was comfortable being in the background orchestrating events and would shy away from attention. When one gathering would end, she would look forward to planning the next event!

She was a Gracious Traveler. Schoochie was always up for an adventure.  She loved impromptu trips to the beach just as much as a quick trip to NYC or a week long vacation.  You could always count on her to be on time, have snacks for everyone, and enjoying whatever came her way.  She loved Broadway shows and NYC street fairs.  She was a tennis fan and you could find her at the US Open in NYC, the Miami Open or at the Citi Open in DC when she wasn't watching matches on TV.  She had a knack for being in the right place at the right time – standing in line in front of Oprah and Gale King at the Theatre going to see The Color Purple, and having her image captured in a picture taken by Getty Images while sitting courtside at the US Open.

She was an Animal Lover.  Schoochie actually had 2 pets - a parrot named Apple that she taught to eat French Fries (with ketchup) and drink Pepsi. And a number of Beta fish.  She was a willing pet-sitter of her sister Gale's dogs over the years, but never wanted to be a dog owner. She fed the birds and the squirrels daily and would spend evenings on the deck watching them eat – and was particular about the type of bird seeds and peanut butter to feed them.  She also had a humming bird feeder and would often say that she might have to get a helmet to set on her deck as the hummingbirds were flying too close to her head.

She loved watching any show about animals – her favorites were:  National Geographic, Dr. Pol, and Behind the Zoo.

She was an Entrepreneur and Crafter.  Her love of dog sitting led her to start a small business making dog bandanas and dog beds to a select few mobile groomers.  Her products became more and more intricate as she learned to incorporate designs using her Cricut.

She was talented in so many ways. She could draw and would make all types of crafts.  She famously made all types of holiday decorations every year.  She would sew Halloween costumes for people and animals (especially dogs).  She had the ability to just look at something, design a pattern, and make it.

She was Independent, Active and a Frugal Shopper.  Schoochie would meet her neighbor, Ms Bernice, for their early morning walks.  Afterward, she would oftentimes jump into her car and take a drive to her favorite shopping centers or to venture to a new store.  She waited for no one, but would be happy to take you if you wanted to go.  She had her few stores that she would frequent – sometimes to get in additional steps by going up and down the isles on cold or rainy weather – others to add to her basement inventory (also know as Mini Walmart)!

Her Nike shoe game was tight – she and her brother-in-law Kevin would frequent the Nike outlets/clearance centers every where we traveled to get the best bargains.  She refused to pay more than $30 for any pair, but somehow managed to acquire enough pairs to match all of her Nike outfits!

She had a beautiful spirit and a compassionate heart.  Her generosity and helpfulness knew no end. She was precious to us all and she will be greatly missed.
