Obituary

June Ellen Queen, 75, of Indian Head, Maryland.

Formally of Pisgah, MD, LaPlata, MD, Southeast, Washington, D.C., and Indian Head, MD, June Ellen Swann Queen, 75 years-old, suddenly passed away on December 19, 2022, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, LaPlata, MD. June was born on January 6, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the union of the late James "Van" Terence Swann and Agnes Carolyn Carter Swann.  June was the second eldest of eleven children born to her mother.  She was educated in the Charles County School System and attended Pomonkey High School, in Charles County, MD.

June and her former spouse, James Queen had four children:  Kimberly, James Jr., Michelle and Kendra.  She very much loved her children and was a devoted grandmother to her grandson Brandon.

In her early years, June was briefly employed at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, MD.  She later transferred to the District of Columbia Government, where she dutifully served as a nurse at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital for over thirty-five (35) years prior to retiring.  She befriended many during her time at St. Elizabeth's Hospital which led to many long-lasting friendships.

June especially enjoyed playing bingo along with her long-time bingo buddies.  She enjoyed dining out (especially eating seafood), working crossword puzzles, playing cards, reading, crocheting, casinos, and spending time with her family.  She loved going to the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to see the live biblical stage plays. She also had a love for all things "roosters" to include ceramics, wood, art or anything else she may have seen. She had a special love for babies and the children in her neighborhood and would often hand out freeze pops to the young neighborhood children.  She kindly gave to those in need without hesitation. She was also a Piscataway Conoy Tribe member.

June was an exceptionally strong woman.  In 2013, she successfully underwent Triple Bypass Heart Surgery and was also a recent cancer survivor.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Kimberly Lee (Willie), Michelle Williams (Stanley), Kendra Queen, her son James Queen, Jr., grandson Brandon Lee, grandson Caylen Swann, two step-granddaughters Denise Cummings (Tony) and Denisha Lee, four great step-grandchildren, Anthony, Imani, Ace and Leo, siblings, Joan Swann, Jacqueline Medley (Robert), Jazsma Speece, Judy Craig (Ronald), Jayne Moreland, John Thomas, Jeffrey Thomas (Joyce), Rodney Murray, and Pamela Green.  She was preceded in death by her sisters Joyce Swann Lacewell (Norwood) and Janice Swann, and her brothers James Johnson, and Jasen Swann.  June is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives, and close friends, who will miss her generous heart, embracing hugs and grand sense of humor.
