JULIAN OSCAR WINSTON, III (AGE 65) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND
Julian (Jay) Oscar Winston, III, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021, and on that day, we lost a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, family member, friend and colleague. He will be remembered for his boundless energy, kindness, committed companionship, and infectious loving spirit.
Jay was born on October 3, 1955, in Washington D.C. The second of two children. He joined Florida Avenue Baptist Church and was baptized when he was seven. He was caring, fun loving, a ferocious friend and he could impersonate anyone. In school his impersonations kept him in trouble but delighted his classmates. He had an unbelievable sense of humor that keep everyone laughing.
Jay's interests were broad, demonstrating proficiency in both sports, namely basketball, as well as the fine arts. He was a part of the Maryland Terrapins' basketball practice squad playing with the likes of Chris Patton, John Lucas and Adrian Dantley.
Jay always loved music, regularly accompanying his father to men's chorus rehearsals. It took a while for Jay to find his musical voice. But once he did his deep resonate bass voice and musical skills were unsurpassed. Jay sang four years in the DC Youth Choral. He also sang in the Junior Choir and Men's Chorus at Florida Avenue Baptist Church and the Chancel Choir at Fort Foote Baptist Church. He was also a regular guest participant with Dupont Park Seven Day Adventist. He groomed his vast talents as a musician and vocalist under the tutelage of his father, Julian Oscar Winston, Jr., his second Dad, Mr. Edward Jackson (Director of the DC Youth Chorale and Dupont Park Seven Day Adventist Senior Choir) and thanks to the stewardship of many seasoned musical saints of the church.
In his earlier years, Jay attended Bunker Hill Elementary School, Bertie Backus Junior High School, Woodward Prep, and Archbishop Carroll. He also received a college education at Bowie State University.
Jay's varied career endeavors following school proved how much he valued dedication to and diligence in one's professional service. At Xerox, he initially refurbished machinery and later moved in to sales, As a private contractor Jay served as a Workforce Development Resident Care/Arbor Educator and Trainer , initiating Job Development and Placement efforts as well as providing job readiness training. He also pursued entrepreneurship as both the CEO, Managing Director of JW Capital Development & Investment, LLC (who assisted businesses in obtaining financing from the Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency). Jay also served as the CEO and Co-Founder of Herban Miracles, a Health and Wellness Company.
