Obituary

Judy Doreatha Williams, age 78, of Waldorf, Maryland

Judy Doreatha Mizzell Williams, 78 years young, was peacefully called home on August 6, 2024, surrounded by family. Judy was born on December 16th, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia to Henry Mizzell and Minne White. She was a proud resident of New York City, N.Y. where she graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and married Bennie Williams in 1964. After various jobs, she finally settled in at the Metropolitan Transit Authority where she worked for 25 years. During these years, she put three children through catholic school and subsequently college.

Judy enjoyed a life with family, especially with her mother and mother-in-law, Tessie Williams. She often hosted Thanksgiving and welcomed all who came across her doorstep. She adored playing cards (Poker, Bid Whist), skiing in Canada, reading, and watching T.V. She was a movie buff, and she particularly loved watching her favorite soap opera, General Hospital. Upon retirement, she moved to Maryland to be near her children and grandchildren. Her biggest passions became playing mahjong and becoming a world traveler, and a dedicated member of her grandson's Ingage Community Church. Judy gave her heart generously to others; she was bold, dynamic, and sassy; she loved hard. Judy was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie White Johnson, and her brother, James Mizzell.

She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her loving children: Tyrone, Desney, and Tenesha; her daughter-in-law TaWonda Williams and son-in-law Kennedy Bowen; her grandchildren: Nelson and Archelle Bowen, Jourdan and David Ofori-Anim, Lena Williams, Justice Massenburg, Briana Bowen, Joshua Massenburg, Jenesis Massenburg, and Bryan Bowen; her two great-grandchildren, Ace and Winn Bowen; her two sisters, Lolita Johnson and Linda Mizzell; her niece, Lynise Warner and great-nephew, Gyden Singleton; and a host of nieces and nephews through love and marriage, cousins, and friends.

We will cherish the foundation she has laid, teaching us to be good, hard-working people; we will miss the stability she provided as our matriarch; we will always remember the clicking of her bracelets as she walked through life.

Her Viewing will be 10:00 am until time of Service, 11:00 am, Thursday, August 15, 2024, Ingage Community Church, 137 Smallwood Village Center, Waldorf, Maryland 20602.

Interment, Friday, August 16, 2024, Rose Hill Cemetery, 792 E Edgar Road, Linden, New Jersey 07036.
