Obituary

Juanita Elizabeth (Jamieson) Yates, 78 of Port Tobacco, Maryland.

Juanita's Journey…….

Juanita Elizabeth Jamieson was one of sixteen children born to Harris Samuel Jamieson and Margaret Mary Bush Jamieson, Thursday, August 14, 1941 in Port Tobacco, Maryland.

Shortly after she was born, Juanita was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mc Conchie, Maryland where she served in several ministries until her health began to fail.

She grew up in Port Tobacco and attended Charles County Public Schools, graduating from Bel Alton High School, Bel Alton, Maryland.  After 36 years of outstanding and dedicated service as a respected Operating Room Technician, Juanita retired from Physicians Memorial Hospital, La Plata, Maryland which is now known as University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center.

In June of 1970 she married Joseph Aaron Yates and from this union, her only child, Joseph Aaron Yates Jr. was born. "Jody," as he is more affectionately called brought her much joy and she was very proud of him. Joseph and Juanita were the co-founders of Yates Contracting Inc., a business that has been serving Southern Maryland for 20 years.

Juanita was the disciplinarian enforcer to her nieces and nephews.  If they did not listen, she would pull their ears while walking and talking to them.

She enjoyed shopping with her sisters.  Back in the day it was at Montgomery Ward Department Store and in more recent years, every grocery store in the LaPlata/Waldorf area.  In addition to shopping, she enjoyed gambling, traveling, visiting Canada, Italy and several states in the U.S.; and she was a gracious host for the many events her husband hosted at their home.

Although Juanita was the mother of one, she mothered her nephew, Randy, niece, Senika, great nephew, Brian, great nieces and was a baby sitter to her cousin "Iggie's" grandchildren.  Juanita was the banker/loan shock of the family and she made the best homemade brown and turkey gravy.

Peacefully, Friday, October 4, 2019 at her home surrounded by family, Juanita transitioned into eternal life.  She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Anita and Evelyn Jamieson, Margaret Thornton and Theresa Quarles; two brothers, Joseph Melvin Jamieson, Sr. and Henry Edward Jamieson, Sr.

Left to cherish many fond memories are, her husband, Joseph A. Yates, Sr.; son, Joseph A. Yates, Jr. (Sherri), stepsons, Thomas and Patrick Adams; grandchildren, 1 st LT Joseph A. Yates, III, Ja'lisa Yates; step grandson, Jamarcus; step great-grandchildren, Jalil and Ahmad; three sisters, Delores Jamieson, Louise "Bernadette" Proctor and Patricia "Pattie" Hart (Randolph, Jr.); brothers, Vincent (Barbara), George (Faye), Charles "Bernard" (Marlene) and Francis (Phillipa); sisters-in-law, Brenda, Joann, Barbara, Mary Alice and Susie; brothers-in-law, Leon, James, George and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
