Joyce Ann
Hawkins
September 11, 1947 – October 8, 2020
Joyce Ann Hawkins (Age 73) of Waldorf, Maryland
Joyce Ann Edwards was born, September 11, 1947 in Washington, DC to the late Alma Mae Edwards. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1964.
Joyce met the love of her life, Charles Hawkins, through her best friend Pat, at a social gathering and they later married on August 4, 1973. From their union two daughters were born, Gail G. Keys and LaShawn K. Hawkins. Although Joyce was not a member of a church, she was of the Baptist faith and nothing exceeded her love for God. Her favorite saying was, "God is going to bless you." She had a strong personality and a lot of wisdom, always using words of praise and encouragement. Joyce was full of life, enjoying conversation with friends and family.
She was employed with the Federal Government at the General Accounting Office for a short while, but then became a homemaker, taking care of her husband, children and home. She was exceptional at caring for her family and became a workaholic! Joyce loved cooking, especially for the holidays. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. Family was her passion. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. She enjoyed watching westerns, movies, dancing, parties, shopping and just having family time. Joyce was proud of her daughters and their accomplishments. She was their greatest cheerleader. Her positivity was one of her best traits. She always wanted the best for others. Joyce never wanted anyone to feel sorry for her. She loved her independence.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Mae Edwards, sisters-in-law, Virginia, Reginia and Phyllis, brothers-in-law, Earl, Frank, Oliver and Donnel.
