Celebration of Life

Joyce Elizabeth Duckett of LaPlata, MD, formerly of Waldorf, entered into eternal rest on July 15, 2011 at the Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, MD She was born on September 15, 1958 in Washington, DC at the old Freedman's Hospital.

Joyce was a kind, caring, and compassionate individual. She always greeted you with that special smile of hers that let you know that she really cared about you. Her smile exemplified the love of Christ which dwelt within her. It simply said, "Jesus loves you this I know because the Bible tells me so."

Joyce was educated in Charles County, MD public schools; namely, J. C. Parks Elementary, Matthew Henson Middle School and Thomas Stone High School. When she resided with her uncle and aunt in Prince George's County, she attended Largo Senior High School. After completing high school, she continued her studies at Prince George's Community College specializing in the field of medicine. Because she was determined and destined to make a career of helping people, she graduated with honors in the early part of 2001.

Because Joyce's mother and grandfather, the late Rev. Robert Herman Lyles, knew God could do all things, He was true to His word and kept His promises, she joined the family church and learned how to let God work in her life to supply her every need.

Joyce worked at Genesis Health Care in LaPlata and Waldorf, MD. Moreover, she was requested for and took care of many "homebound patients." She received many accolades, certificates of achievement and commendations for outstanding and superb work.

Having fun was one of the things she loved best: playing dominoes with her sisters, Katie, Betsy, Sheila and Phyllis, most of all beating them. We can still hear her laugh out loud as she sat up the winning play. Talk about crabs, she loved them and would travel to any lengths to get them. She also loved to dance and fondly remembers her "Uncle Parker" when they would talk about someday the two them might be on "Soul Train."

Joyce leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughter, Porsche Nicole; grandson, Antwann, Jr.; mother, Essie M. Duckett; father, Sidney B. Duckett; sisters: Sylvia Jiggetts, Phyllis Brown, Sheila Campbell; brothers: David Duckett and Joseph Duckett, Sr., four half sisters: Vanessa Taylor, Goiga Baker, Stacey Duckett, Stephanie Duckett and the late Dawn Taylor , two half brothers: Dwayne, Stephen and the late Darryl Duckett , three step sisters: Gale Moore, Wanda Howell and Deana Washington, three step brothers: John, Christopher and Kevin Munson, step father, the late John F. Munson, Sr., lifelong friend, Charles Yates, her boo, the late Aubrey Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, close friends and loved ones.

Her viewing will be held from 8:00am until time of Home Going Services, 10:00am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744.
