JOSEPHINE ELIZABETH KEYS (AGE 83) OF LA PLATA, MARYLAND.

Josephine E. Keys, age 83, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Genesis HealthCare, Waldorf, Maryland.  Josephine was born on January 17, 1938 to the late John, Sr., and Josephine E. Keys.

Josephine was formerly married to the late Roland Thomas (Teddy) Gutrick, Sr.  This union produced six children; Roland, Jr., Carolyn, Yvonne, Joyce, Sheila and Eugene.

Josephine was educated in the Charles County School System.   She was an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Welcome, Maryland until her health no long afforded her to attend services.  Josephine was a stay at home mother who lovingly raised her children.  After all children were grown, she went on to work for many years at various dry cleaners.

Josephine enjoyed her days playing bingo with her friends at LaPlata Manor Apartments.  The happiest times were those spent with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Mason; two sons, Roland, Jr., and Eugene Gutrick, Sr.; one sister, Sarah Thompson; five brothers-in-law, Raymond Gutrick, Earl Burns, Leroy Jackson, Steffin Simpson and  Jimmy Hairston.

Josephine leaves to cherish her precious memories three daughters, Yvonne Thomas, Joyce Proctor and Sheila Jenifer; one brother, Deacon John F. Keys; three sisters, Bettie Hairston, Marquarita Jackson and Cordelia Burns; five sisters-in-law, Florine Simpson, Elsie Gutrick, Christine Pleasant, Cathleen Thompson and Theresa Keys; five sons-in-law, Roger Thomas, Joseph Mason, David Proctor, Sr., Lloyd Jenifer and Frank Wade; one daughter-in-law, Tracy Gutrick; 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; a dear friend, Mr. Bowman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her Viewing will be, 9:00 am, until time of Service, 11:00 am, Thursday, August 5, 2021, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 8105 Annapolis Wood Road, Welcome, MD 20693.
