Josephine Mary Plummer Briscoe transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, March 23, 2012. She was pre-deceased by her husband William, her sister Catherine, and her brothers, Cornelius, Faustinus, John, Raphael, Hamilton and Frederick.
Josephine was born in Washington, DC and spent much of her youth in Chapel Hill, Maryland. She was educated in the DC Public schools system.
Josephine met and married William Hartford Briscoe. Unexpectedly, their 'twosome' grew when Frieda Bernadette arrived. Frieda was a joy to them. Their favorite vacation spot was New York City, NY.
She loved her family and spending time with them. She also loved cooking for family gatherings. Although many tried, no one could make her potato salad. It was a 'pleasure' and not a 'problem' when she could cook most of the meals.
Josephine loved to work. She began working early in her adult life. For many years, she maintained the homes of several Congressional secretaries. She was meticulous about how rooms and their furnishings were to be presented and maintained. All of her employers held her in high regard because they saw first hand her work ethic and attention to quality and detail.
She was a caretaker and a source of strength to many. She was always there for those who reached for her hand. For over 55 years, she was a member of the Pride of Southern Maryland, Temple of Elks #651, Pomonkey, MD-- a community service organization.
She also loved to travel. She took numerous trips to various parts of the country, but loved Atlantic City, NJ and New York City, NY.
Josephine was a spiritual person and believed in the power of prayer.
She was also affectionately known as "Phine," and 'Ma' by many. She loved life and people. The more people, the better. She loved the holidays, particularly Christmas and Easter.
During the past several years, she resided at the Future Care PineView Nursing Home. She was cared for by a very devoted staff of physicians, nurses and health aides.
Josephine was very special and will always remain in our hearts. She leaves behind a loving and devoted family that will truly miss her...Frieda, James, Alexis and Martin, Yvonne and family, a sister, Cecilia and family, a sister-in-law, Clara and her family and a host of other loving family and friends.
Her viewing will be held on Thursday, March 29th, 10am until Mass of Christian Burial 11am, St. Columba Catholic Church, 7804 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
