Jamieson, Joseph Melvin, Sr. (Age 74) of Marshall's Corner (La Plata), Maryland.

OBITUARY

Joseph Melvin Jamieson, Sr., more affectionately called "Melvin, Pops or Sugar Daddy" was born, February 15, 1938 in Port Tobacco, Maryland to the late Harris Samuel and the late Margaret Mary Bush Jamieson.

A lifelong resident of Charles County, Maryland, Melvin grew up in Port Tobacco and attended Charles County Public Schools.
The second eldest son of fourteen children, Melvin was no stranger to hard work. He worked alongside his brothers on the farm raising livestock, tobacco and growing vegetables. He eventually made farming his career choice and worked at Cooksey Farm in Newtown, Maryland for a number of years. After which he was employed with the Charles County Board of Education as a Building Service Worker (Night Leader) until he retired.

Melvin had a quiet spirit and was a very humble man with his own unique "swagg!" Not large in statue but he had a large heart, especially for children. Melvin married Brenda Diane Posey on June 3, 1965, together they became the parents of two sons, Joseph Melvin Jamieson, Jr. and Randolph Harris Jamieson. They made their home in Marshall's Corner, Maryland. Melvin and Brenda opened their home to family and were surrogate parents to three young men, eventually adopting one. The other two young men continued to be nurtured until one moved on and the other has never left.

For the longest time, Melvin enjoyed smoking his Chesterfield cigarettes until he gave them up for cigars. He also enjoyed family gatherings, playing his guitar (the honkey tonk), cards, and traveling with Benny Coates, his extended family. Pops definitely had a sweet tooth. He got his nickname "Sugar Daddy" from his baby sister, Pattie, after eating her huge "Sugar Daddy" candy. He also enjoyed his late sister Evelyn's baking and cooking; there was no doubt that she spoiled him.
He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, serving as an Usher at the 8:30am Mass on Sundays; he also served as a member of the Bingo Committee and Church Picnic Committee.

Suddenly on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland, our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Joseph Melvin Jamieson, Sr., transitioned from this earthly life to life eternal.
