IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Dwayne
Hicks
April 1, 1963 – April 21, 2025
Joseph Dwayne Hicks age 62 of Indian Head, Maryland.
Joseph Dwayne Hicks, beloved brother, nephew, uncle, and friend departed this life on April 21, 2025, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, Maryland. He was born on April 1, 1963, to the late Geraldine Hicks in Newport, Maryland. Joseph's loved ones called him Dwayne. Dwayne grew up in Woodland Village in Indian Head, Maryland where he developed lifelong friendships and enjoyed relationships with his community that became his extended family.
Dwayne received his education in the Charles County Public School System. During his primary years, he really enjoyed playing little league baseball and football with his neighborhood friends. Dwayne graduated from Lackey High School in 1981, where he was a member of both the wrestling and football teams.
Dwayne enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including watching movies and his sister Gwen's homemade chocolate chip cookies!
From an early age, Dwayne had a passion for anything electronic. Whether it was repairing a car stereo or a television, he approached the task with a sense of curiosity and joy.
Dwayne worked for an electronic company that allowed him to travel across the United States for weeks at a time setting up electronic systems and or repairing them. Traveling for work led Dwayne to settle in Ohio for many years and he enjoyed living there.
When Dwayne returned to Maryland, he worked for Lowes and Home Depot. His coworkers remember him as kind, always ready to lend a helping hand, and one who would share a joke to trigger a smile. Dwayne cherished memories made during his travels with LaWan, his longtime companion.
Dwayne was a quiet soul with a kind heart, and he will be remembered for his gentle presence, his thoughtful nature, and his loyalty to those he loved.
Dwayne is survived by his loving Sisters Gwendolyn A. Chase (John) and Sandra L. Swann (Terrence), Nephews Ryan L. Hicks (Kia) and Terrence A. Swann, Niece Chloe E. Swann, Great Niece Briana N. Hicks, Uncle William Hicks, Aunt Catherine Hicks, and Great Aunt Mary Queen. Dwayne is remembered fondly by his devoted companion LaWan Wilson and a host of cousins and friends.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Lucille Hicks, his brother Melvin "Bo" Hicks, and his grandmother Nancy Hicks.
